Poyet confident despite Vicente link
9:30am Monday 11th June 2012 in Sport By Brian Owen
Vicente enjoyed an excellent season with Albion
The Yellow Submarine are being linked with Vicente.
But Gus Poyet still fancies his chances of bringing the former Spain international back to The Amex.
Villarreal have Vicente on their wanted list, according to reports in the player’s home city of Valencia over the weekend.
The report claims Vicente did not produce his best form at Albion and would welcome a return to Spanish football.
Villarreal is only about 50 miles north of Valencia.
The report says finances would not be a problem and Vicente would return to the left-wing role in which he starred for Valencia.
Poyet was not surprised by the report and said: “Vicente comes from there.
“It’s up to everyone. We’ll see. But I still think we have a great option.”
Villarreal lived down to their nickname – which they owe to their yellow kit – by sinking into the second division last season.
They are desperate to regain top-flight status but their preparations were thrown into chaos last week when newly-appointed head coach Manuel Preciado suffered a fatal heart attack.
