Forster-Caskey targets Vicente double act

Jake Forster-Caskey would love to play in Albion's first team with Vicente.

But the Seagulls' midfield prospect could go out on loan first after signing a new three-year deal.

Although Forster-Caskey, 18, made a handful of first team appearances next season none of them were alongside Vicente, the Spanish star who is poised to commit his future to the club.

That would be great news for Forster-Caskey as well as Albion.

He said: "Vicente plays in a very similar position to me, just in front of the holding midfielder on the left, and also he is left-footed. He's brilliant for me to look up to, because he's done so much in the game, played international football and in the Champions League.

"To have someone like that really is fantastic. The club has moved forward so much. A few years ago you'd never have thought we'd have a player like him in the side but it's reality now."

Forster-Caskey could be loaned out to gain more first team experience.

He added: "That has been spoken about. Nothing is set in stone but obviously Brighton have got a big squad and we are pushing on to the top of the Championship and looking, I feel, for a top six place this year.

"So it might be a good idea to maybe at the start of the season look for a loan move. I'll see how pre-season goes and take it from there."

Refreshing attitude compared to some of our youngsters - perhaps it comes from having family support from people who know football.

Mature, refreshing, realistic........ not views usually associated with footballers, especially young ones,..... this guy is going to play a big part in our future I feel, I hope he doesnt get itchy feet anytime soon!

I agree, great attitude from a youngster who obviously understands that things dont always happen overnight.Maybe a loan to our old mate Danny Wilson at Sheff Utd ,who will probably be setting the pace in League 1,would be a good base for Jake to come back to us latter in the season and come off the bench to help out!!

I would rather see him playing alongside Vicente in pre-season and see if it works out ... they are both very skillful and talented players and both can score from midfield , Jake scored last season for the 1st team..so why does he need to go on loan to have more experience ??? Try them out together now .... i have been asking for this for ages ... two creative midfield players to supply the passes for CMS and another forward... We have the defensive cover with Liam and a winger for width ... It could work ! Thats what pre season is about ... i dont want Jake out on loan , i want him in the first team ! GG

I'm inclined to agree, but Gus will rightly have his own ideas and plans and may see it differently to you and me,in which case I bow to his superior knowledge

Gus has said the name of the game is getting players to help vinnie. So let's wait to see who Gus gets in, it might be a star midfielder. Altough a loan deal has been muted it may not be a season long loan

A loan to another Championship side would be OK. He won't learn anything he doesn't already know by going to a L1 club.

A few years ago you’d never have thought we would have a player like Vicente at the club and a few years ago you’d never have thought we would have been able to keep an England prospect like Jake. He won’t get much better experience than being understudy to the ex Spanish international this season and he could get quite a bit of game time.

Why would he get itchy feet anytime soon, when he has, literally just signed a three year contract ?
If he had 'itchy feet' , he would have not committed himself to the club and said 'this is the only club i want to play for ' !

My abiding memories of last season were of young Jake getting into the box more than most of the other midfielders. Don't want to get carried away but if he is good enough, he is old enough.
Having said that, the Championship is a tough old league. We need some big units like Liam Trotter at Millwall, for instance, to allow the players with more flair to flourish. It's going to be tough but am so looking forward to it.
