Vicente wants to talk it over

No deal: Albion have been unable to agree a new contract with Vicente No deal: Albion have been unable to agree a new contract with Vicente

Albion could be on collision course with Vicente and his agents after tying down the Spanish star for another year at The Amex.

Victor Oñate, director general of Vicente’s management company in Valencia, flew to London yesterday seeking discussions over the player’s future.

Oñate plans to meet club officials today.

Albion have been in negotiations with Vicente in recent weeks over a new contract.

However they announced on Tuesday evening they were activating a clause allowing them to extend his current deal by a year until June 30, 2013.

Vicente’s representatives have so far opted not to issue any comment on their player’s future.

However Argus sources in Spain understand the player was unhappy with the club’s decision to activate the clause and is keen to clarify various issues.

The player’s return to full fitness and impressive form last term with the Seagulls caught the eyes of other clubs, including two second tier outfits near Valencia.

Seagulls boss Gus Poyet has told The Argus he expects to see Vicente back at training on Monday.

He has described the decision to invoke the clause given that Albion were still unable to agree a new deal as “common sense”.

Meanwhile the Seagulls remain close to making further signings with Poyet set to add at least three players, including a left-back, to his squad.

Its never dull! Instead of everyone getting round up - just take it as it comes! This is all part of modern day footy with 24hr media (I remember not even 15yrs ago not having a clue about who is going where/whos agent wants what etc.
This is now part of the ride. Remember the club is bigger (considerably bigger now) than any one player... We have a knack of unearthing "gems" so if vicente is not to be - another will appear. It just seems we are now unearthing continental, world beating gems - and not the likes of johnny crumplin football genius (a gem from 20 yrs ago!) Stop fretting and get behind whoever pulls on the blue and white jersey..

If Vicente can't agree a contract then let him go. Gus will find someone else who can help us reach the play offs. Theres no point trying to keep a stray cat if it prefers the more expensive food next door

Didnt see that one coming did we !! If he was undecided and we forced his hand there can be no surprise to this reaction. Granted a talent no doubt but we surely want a player to play for us if he 1000% wants to pull on the famous blue and white jersey. It was hinted GP was building the team round Vincente according to the argus if true what IF he plays less than last season? Agents should be banned in football in my opinion!

Forgeting about the "Gentlemans agreements and how we dont want players who don't want to be here etc etc etc", when Vicente and his advisors signed his deal and the clubs retention option what did they think would happen. As far as i can see a legal agreement was reached and Brighton are absolutely entitled to retain Vicente for 2012/13. I'm guessing Villarreal and Elche were not desperate for his services during his injury problems. While i would love to see a willing Vicente play for us next season, if he wants to go and clubs in Spain are queuing for his signature, no problem, but we are entitled to compensation, significant compensation. Lets see if Villarreal and Elche are so keen to sign Vicente when they are quoted £4m.

Just give us some decent dosh for him and he can stay in Spain. The reality is that he's not match fit for large parts of the season and there are more consistent performers who could come to the club and contribute more to the club's push for premier league football.

Does not look good,he only wants to seem to talk now we have invoked the clase, perhaps he was just hoping the club would leave it and then he and his agents could get a better deal elsewhere. Seem to recall Gus saying the team was going to bebuilt around CMS,how many other players have been told this. Much as I like Vicente this speculation and uncertainty is not good for the club or its fans, let him stew and lets move on.

Amazing is it not that last season Vicente stated money was not at the top of the list when he made the decision to come and play for Brighton all he wanted to do was play football and felt that he would get that opportunity to do so at Brighton, the club get him fit and ready to be able to play and now it seems that money or family is at the top of the list and football second. If he does not want to play for Brighton 100% then let him go but ensure that the club receive just reward for the time and effort it put into him last season.

Strange thing about spain is they have high expectations of team (who usually deliver!) The fans are passionate (as are ours) and when they have flags on cars/in windows etc it doesn't look chavvy (as it does here!) Strange.
Anyhow.. The Argus/bha fc are certainly having the desired results.. They want us to talk and speculate as any news is good for club/paper. I can not see that if vicente does go elsewhere - how that is bad for us - we will be due some money! Again - sensible management. To be honest - if it wasn't for friends family bhafc (and I suppose job) I would choose spain over brighton (incidently all my reasons for staying in brighton area are exactly the same reasons vicente would prefer to stay in spain)

Ok This is how I see it. Vicente has been advised by his agents to leave things until 1st July at which time he will be free to join whoever he wants. TB and co are not stupid and by enforcing the 1 year extension have now got all parties to the table. Amazing isnt it ho his agents are on the first flight over :). From our point of view we can,t dither around all summer waiting on his decision, If he is not coming then we need to fnd a replacement as soon as possible. Im sure we will release hm from this 1 Year extension but obviously at a price, which is only good business after the money spent on him last season. Vicente has now been put in a position where he needs to make his mind up.
If he goes then fine but lets invest any monies obtained into a player who wants to be here.
BZ on loan would be my first choice :)

Gus says it is common sense to invoke the clause, I agree.
But what sort of sense was it to publicly state that we would not invoke the clause, at the end of last season, and allow Vicente to walk if he wanted to?

I would be interested in our fans reaction to Vincente now he is playing the usual pre-madonna role that most talented players do, thought he was different and thats why we took to him as much as his brilliance and why we tolerated his 'injures' dont think we would be so tolerant if it happened this season, any thoughts?

pte says...

Right, I've worked this one out. Vinnies agents were negotiating with BHA saying they were offered XY & Z from other clubs and demanding BHA match them. So BHA invoke the 1 year option which means no club can give better terms than BHA on top of paying a transfer fee. So effectively BHA having promised the agents not to invoke the clause have pulled the rug from under them and weakened their negotiating position. No wonder they have the muchos Huff!!

Rather crafty I would say. If Vinnie leaves, BHA get a fee which also means Vinnie's next club will only be able to offer less money because of the fee. So Vinnie cant get more money by leaving so he might as well stay if BHA dont withdraw the increased offer. Cute

My feelings about Vicente have been well documented on here and it was me who perpetuated the "Hologram" theory about him last year which caused some outrage among some on here as well as plenty of amusement which was the intended reaction. I always believed that he came here to get himself fit and play the minimum amount of football which would get him back in the public eye again, which he did with great conviction at the latter end of the season. He is a class act without doubt, but has an ego to match and like most footballers is a "Journeyman" who will follow the money. I am sure some fans will feel particularly aggrieved if he moves on and may well be a little hostile towards him if he plays against us in the future. The majority, like myself, will accept that this, sadly perhaps, is the modern game and move on to get excited about the next "star" to grace the Amex turf! UTA forever.............

Way off the mark to label Vicente a "Journeyman".
He has had three clubs, including us, in 15 years.
In the eleven years at Valencia, he turned down a move to Real Madrid, which I am sure would have been financially beneficial to him.
Yes, he rates himself and probably has a big ego, but who wouldn't with his ability?

I feel we are being somewhat like the Americans here, Guilty until proved innocent, we really have no idea at this time why he is going to play or not play for the Albion, we have to wait until an official statement is put out by the club. Because Victor Oñate is here does not necessarily mean that he Vicente does not want to play for us, as Gus kept saying there are some details to iron out and maybe that is the reason that Victor Oñate is here on Vicente's behalf. I am probably way off the mark but as I say wait for a statement from the club which I would assume will be later today if a meeting has been held.

Rolivan's one word posting AGENTS on another thread summed it all up.
For Agent in this case read Management company - they have to be seen to be doing something to justify their fees.
Whilst from a football playing perspective I hope that Vicente stays ultimately I agree with other posters that he should only do so if he really wants to be part of Albion's future.
Finally I think the club were right to force the issue as there was no point in letting the situation drift past 30 June when he would have been out of contract with all that that implies.

You shouldnt assume that Vinnie wants to leave. He may want to stay but get the best deal from the club he can get. There are financial negotiations taking place. Invoking the option is a means of limiting the offers that vinnie might get elsewhere which his agents were using as a bargaining chip. This makes the clubs current offer more attractive

On a more football matter, why do people keep saying Vicente owes us? It suited all parties last season to have him at the club and I for one got so much pleasure out of watching his genuine quality that I was glad to help pay his wages. Whatever happens over the coming weeks/months, I believe the club will be worse off if he's not here, but what will be will be.

FOIL AGENTS or to put it another way:- F.O. GENITALS

The Vincente saga IMHO. Centres on 2 issues, a) Agents getting to him, b) he doesn't feel Albion are going to do the business and wants what he feels is a bigger or better club. Would be sorry to see him go BUT I don't want to watch a player who doesn't want give his all for the club. My thinking is also bearing in mind we now have his friend and ex- team mate and still wants to go, he's made his mind up. Ta Ta matey.

Clearlywants to stay in Spain and he and his Agent are miffed the club has invoked the extension to the contract clause which will put the kibosh on any move to Spain as any prospetive club would not want a fee.

The club should have no wish to keep an unhappy plaer as this is very much against GP's stated philosphy, hence the talks.

A low value buy out of his contract on the cards, methinks.

His agents are reported to have come over yesterday?? Has anyone heard any snippets of news regarding the meetings?? Cannot find anything on any other site!

Im amazed that everyone has chosen to not take what our own club captain has said as the way it is.

Just happened upon Vicente’s agents web site

http://www.vosmarket
ing.com/representaci
on.html

and notice that he also represents the Villarreal manager; also Elche is only about 40 mins from his office. So the people who think it’s the agents is spreading unrest could be right given the earlier rumours.

Its typical. player on the scrap heap. we pick him up rebuild his fitness and suddenly he's off. he wouldn't last the season anyway. lets move on. you can't build a team round one player. bridcutt is our jewel.

Let's cut the guy some slack. His wife's just had a baby and he will be under enormous pressure to stay in Spain close to family. His first priority is unlikely to be BHA. The time to get twitchy is if he goes to another club in the Championship - that would be cause for discontent.
FFS whats he doing having a baby? He still a Brighton player and should be giving his all to the club

IMHO Vicente is not a team player. He's a one-man show at our level, who will always shoot rather than pass after one of his mazy dribbles. Apart from one game when he scored twice, he missed far more scoring opportunities than he scored, which is part of the reason why we failed to win most of the games he played in.

Yes, his ball skills and dribbling were truly amazing to behold, but him playing for us was always going to be a short-lived affair, as he obviously considers he is too good for us.

We will miss his undoubted skills, but not for long.

Disrepectful to Vicente the way Albion had activated the clause ! He may have that trapped feeling and no one likes that . Let him decide it is a big decision 4 him

thewhitehawker---may seem disrespectful but they had no other option, time was running out and in business one has to make tough decisions. The Club is not just about one player---as it seems at the moment. If they had not activated the clause Vicente would have been a free agent---one imagines---and then the Club would have been the loser. Seemingly having given the Club the impression he was going to come back for another year, he and his agents dithered so Gus & co had to take the initiative. I hope this will all be cleared up in the next day or so so we can move on. Slightly takes the gloss off other new signings that may be coming our way. Remember Vicente has to realise that there is no 'I' in Team---one English phrase he SHOULD learn.

It looks as though one of the conditions of his return to Brighton is that a swimming pool be insalled in the corner of the Amex Stadium.

The story states "Oñate plans to meet club officials today." That was yesterday 28th so maybe some update will be put out by the club today, to the people who pay the wages in part, YOU the people who support the Albion and who without you the club would not exist. I understand there is a lot of discussions, and here on the site we are just a pebble from the beach but as we show interest in the club it should also IMO keep an interest in what we have to say. On the official site the last mention of Vicente was three days ago and on such an important subject again IMO there is a lack of any thing solid being shown.

LOL - quite right! Should obviously have been a celibacy clause in the contract. Come on Gus, let's get these agreements properly tied up to avoid these problems in the future.

My God, Jehova Witness baptism pool at the Amex and Vincente preferring to sign for a Spanish second division side (evidently); it really is the end of the world this time. Sorry if I've offended any of those nice people who keep knocking on my door trying to sell God to me.
