Netting Vicente 'won't be easy'

Wanted man: Vicente Wanted man: Vicente

The club president hoping to take Vicente back to Spain has warned fans it will not be easy.

José Sepulcre is willing to make Vicente – under contract at The Amex until next summer – his best paid player as he aims to guide Elche back to the top flight and double the club’s number of members.

Sepulcre has been linked with several signings but told impatient fans: “None are players for whom it is easy to close a deal because they are desirable to other clubs.”

Elche recently appointed Fran Escribá, a friend and coach of Vicente in their days at Valencia, as first team boss.

At the risk of incurring the wrath from the above posts .Does`nt this have a direct influence on what type of player we need to bring in.Or do we simply rebuild midfield from scratch, and if so who?

I noticed the Argus closed the comments throughout the whole site so I don't think it was Vicente comments related.

The Argus probably turned off the comments because they didn't have the anyone in to moderate overnight?

If Rodders wants to leave then the fair thing to do is let him go provided either he or Elche pay the money he earnt while getting fit. If they are not prepared to play fair and pay then BHA are entitled to play hardball.
Obviously BHA have to guard against being had over by the player and Elche

Translation for you.......We know that B&HA want him but what does Vicente want?

My take on this is that he'll go to Elche and because we have excercised our option a fee will have to be paid. Which is the best outcome imho.

I have resigned myself to the fact that we have seen the last of Vicente in the blue and white stripes of Brighton and Hove Albion.
Although it is disappointing, any club he moves to will be taking on the same risks that we did, and Vicente is a now another year older.
Vicente's mercurial skills didn't improve us as a team, in fact we endured our worst run of the season while he was a first team regular.
I believe his departure will be far less damaging than that of Elliot Bennett, and twenty two goal Glenn Murray who could have propelled us into the Premier League at the first attempt.
I hope an arrangement can be arrived at which allows him to join a club nearer his home.

Viva Vicente !!!

Or perhaps Vicente's habit of pooping in the woods might be a more interesting variation on the same tedious daily theme!! Where are these signings we have been promised? Time is pressing on now and we have brought in two good 'free' signings. But these two are nowhere near enough to ensure we challenge for top 6 and I am assuming the next signings are where we really need strengthening, I.e midfield and strikers. Surely news next week?

dave from bexill says...
11:26am Sat 30 Jun 12

Whats obviously of paramount importance now is that some good signings are imminent and most seem to be agreed where the club needs to strenghen. Other than in goal and cover at right back, we are a weaker squad than for most of last season. I know that we all want the Vicente saga to be put to bed now, but in truth it's most unlikely that the Albion will be able to replace his quality in this league with like for like.
I'm also a bit suprised that no interest seems to have been shown by other clubs, especially league one, regarding some of our squad. In particular I'd be happy to see a particular left back and two/three midfielders moved out to make some space and finance available for any additions of a better quality, if the club is going to improve this coming season. Anyway bye, bye Vicente, it was great while lasted.

I would see him as a hard but fair (sometimes unfair) defender, but his weight, age and level of fitness might be issues. Maybe Ben for the development squad, though. Could be a real sow's ear in to silk purse job, and lots of kudos for the community side of the club's operation in dealing with difficult young people, ex-offenders and so on and so on.

The way I see it, Vicente had plenty of time to negotiate with other clubs if he wanted to go, and any club interested should have acted faster.

All Vicente had to do was tell us, last month, that he didn't want to return but it is obvious that he hadn't ruled us out.

If there is anyone at fault, it is his agent and advisors for wasting time in sorting out his future.

Once again I will remind people of the Calde saga when Stains came sniffing around. It isn't over until the fat one sings!

The other thing that we may all be overlooking is that those talented development squad members are a year older and a year more experienced. JFC is often mentioned as a (near) future first teamer... what about Toby? He just might be the answer to the striker role?

Exercising the clause was, in my view, simply Albion's way of forcing his hand in public. Had they let it drag on with their fingers crossed, he would undoubtedly have left and the fans would have blamed the club. Now, I reckon they'll reach an undisclosed compromise and he will leave with everyone blaming the player and supporting the Chairman and Manager who: "couldn't have done anything more." Neat work chaps.

Regarding the squad for this coming season. I actually think that at the moment we are probably saving on the wage bill from last year. Yes we have signed a very good right back and goalkeeper but when you consider they were both free and that their wages will have been more than covered by those released then id suggest we still have a very good budget moving into July. If we do have a fund to actually spend on a teansfer fee then i for one wouldnt be adverse to seeing a few deals like Danny Murphy's at Blackburn, yes his wage is high but when you consider the transfer fee saved i think he represents a pretty sound bet. Anyway Im sure the management team have hought of all of this.

If he was being honest in negotiations with the club, then it would appear that he was reasonably happy to be here next season, until this Spanish side expressed their interest.
The option should have been taken up as soon as last season finished, with perhaps a gentlemans agreement on letting him go for free if a team at a higher level was interested in him.
I don't think Gus had Elche in mind when he said he should be allowed to find a club playing at a higher level. But maybe that was not clear to Vicente.

Personally I say get rid, we don't need some primadonna rocking the boat. And let's face it, if he doesn't want to come back then why force him as he will not be commited to the club and will end up being a drain on resources that could be better spent on a player who wants to play for us.
Get a fee agreed and sack him off!

I quite agree pte.
One can only negoitiate in good faith with someone who is also prepared to deal on the same basis.
Since the beginning of May Albion appear to have been most restrained in their dealings with Vicente.
The club has waited until his new son was born and were prepared for him to return for preseason training next Monday 2 July rather than last Monday.
However having shown patience and restraint the club were left with little choice but to exercise their option to extend his contract to protect themselves.
Having said that I agree with other posters that the sooner this situation is resolved one way or the other the better.
For one thing Poyet needs to know if Vicente is going to be part of his plans or not.
The fact that his representitive met with the club and no statement has subsequently been issued is ominous. I accept that the representitive needed to 'consult' with Vicente but there has been plenty of time for that.
Hopefully Albion are pressing ahead with other potential signings and are not being distracted by this Saga.

Who is to say that the real scenario is that Vicente wants to stay with us, and his wife wants to stay in Spain to be with her family after the birth of their child.

They may have had massive arguements over it, who knows?

All I know is that he gave it 100% when he played for us and I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

Did you mean ¿qué quiere Vicente? as in 'what does Vicente want?' Your question reads 'what do they want from Vicente?' which leads me to think you're not Spanish.

Anyway, the whole Elche thing shows a real lack of ambition on Vicente's part. They play in the Spanish 2nd division where the level I would say is below that of the Championship. They don't have much in the way of resources and aren't favorites to get promoted next season. In fact, it's a far cry from the Albion and our prospects. In a year or two he could be playing in the Premier League. Elche? Por favor!!!

Yup. Spot on.

I've already drawn a line under the Vicente saga and aside from an unlikely announcement of that forthcoming fee, I won't be giving the issue any further thought.

I've been inclined to the same line of thinking since the Vicente situation came to light.

Our record of winning with JFC in the side is actually better than with The Dagger, JFC is the (long term) future whereas Vicente would have been medium term at best.

JFC is young, hungry and full of potential. I'd certainly like to see him flourish over many years with us and believe he will.

When he's appeared he's always done well and he has an eye for goal too....all good teams have goals from midfield. So why wait? Make him a more regular fixture in the side (not just squad with its expanded bench). I suspect Gus will have been using him more next season anyway.

Nonetheless, we do need at least one more central midfielder as Sparrow and Dicker are ok but unspectacular, Harley is probably history, Navs has gone and Vicente won't be with us.

Vince says...

"V" for victory and "ENTICE" makes the word VICENTE.

Bobby Zamora would be an excellent and creative midfielder, if we could ENTICE him and the "V" word would be nearly every match. I have frequently observed Bobby, setting up his other striking colleagues at Fulham with astute and creative passes. The thing is, that Bobby is always aware of what is happening around him. With his great love of the ALBION, what a homecoming it would be, and think how motivated he would be! For me it would be a dream come true, and he is just the man to play in the likes of CMS, Lua Lua and Buckley, as well as score a few goals himself.
VICTORY and promotion to the Premiership with Bobby Dazzler NOT Vicente (who was always going to be a short-term measure).

What a thought!
"When the ball hits the net like a flying rocket it's Zamora!"

Hovite says...

Don't forgeet V for Vince.

But yeah Bobby Z would be ace, it was a shame QPR didn't get relegated otherwise this may have been a possiblity. Maybe next year!

TheBigun / Cap'nH, yep JFC could step up, was it 2 goals in 3 appaerances last season.

If Oxlade Chamberlain is old enough at 19 for England and the Prem we need to get JFC out there getting experience on the pitch ASAP.
