Crawley Town have made their fourth summer signing with the capture of Republic of Ireland international Mark Connolly.

The 21-year-old defender has joined Crawley on a two-year contract after he was released by Bolton at the end of last season.

Connolly, who has seven Republic of Ireland under-21 caps and was also captain of his country's youth team, began his career in England with Wolves in 2006 and such was his reputation at youth level that Bolton paid £1 million for his services three years later.

He made one appearance for Bolton and captained their reserve team. He had loan spells with Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone and Macclesfield, whom he played seven games for last season and appeared against Reds in the 2-2 draw at Moss Rose last March.

Director of football Steve Coppell said: “Mark is a great fit for the club as we look forward to the challenge of League 1 football."
