Pemberton turns down Reds

John Pemberton is understood to have turned down the chance to become Crawley's new manager.

Reds approached Sheffield United for permission to speak to their academy manager on Tuesday but the former Crystal Palace defender is believed to have opted to stay at Bramall Lane.

It is the second setback for Crawley in their search for a replacement for Sean O'Driscoll after Aldershot Town boss Dean Holdsworth rejected the chance to join them on Monday.

Meanwhile, Gary Waddock has distanced himself from the vacant hot-seat at Broadfield Stadium.

The Wycombe Wanderers boss, who was believed to be one of the leading contenders for the role, said: "I haven't had any contact. I'm very focussed on the job that I'm doing here."

Desperate times at Crawley! Shouldn't the Board tell the fans what is really going on?

Seems to be real problems at Crawley. The truth will eventually come out.

It was well known Crawley had Asian investors maybe after Steve Evans left they decided to pull out.

Funny none of you commented on the article before with us just signing a new player, the fifth of the summer?
Must be quiet times at BHA for you to be showing so much concern for our welfare. O'Driscoll left because he has none of the "loyalty" he preached, and Pemberton looks a good prospect to be the next Blades manager after Wilson is sacked. Hardly a major crisis, admittedly O'Driscoll has left us in the lurch at a bad time to get a manager (one who isnt out of work anyway), but we do have Coppell and Craig Brewster to hold the fort for the time being, some teams might be happy just with those two?

I'm genuinely concerned for Crawley FC. Iv been following there rise up the football ladder which is great for Sussex to have 2 football league clubs but with the players they've got they should have a good season.

mjfjo1 - take a close look. It is all one way traffic at the moment and in the wrong direction. Contrast that with a couple of years ago when money appeared to be no object and there were signings every other week.

But you are the ones who need the close look. We made a signing yesterday to go with the other four decent quality signings already made (Peterborough 1st team keeper, Connolly from Bolton, Sadler & Adams both Lge 1 regulars and young players, Cooper from Bournemouth a lge 1 regular). Does that indicate one way traffic? Yes we shipped out some deadwood, but in amongst all the signings Evans made there were alot of duds, so it was always likely. Just because there isnt as much noise coming out not sure that indicates a crisis, more a club trying to get on with building to a level which we have probably reached too early (there has been alot of infrastructure work to be done, and without somebody like Bloom to chuck millions at it). We realise we can never win with you lot but at least try and see the whole story!

Tubbs, Brodie and Evans himself - deadwood?

You do make it hard work being so selective? Tubbs went 6 months ago we made a good deal out of this and brought in Gary Alexander (Brentford leading scorer) as his replacement (substantial sums have also had to be spent to bring the ground up to league 1 level). Brodie was one of Evan's duds who we shipped out on loan a year ago, and Evan's himself couldnt resist the lure of £4 million to spend. The deadwood was about six or seven players who had done their bit and couldnt be seen as league one players, BUT we have replaced them with five proven league 1 players so far. Not sure why you have such an interest in making mischief but if you cannot see the whole picture why even bother getting involved? Do you accept that we have indeed signed 5 players, indicating it isnt all one way, or are not interested in the full story?

Crawley will find a Manager, could be an opportunity for a first time manager, it worked out well for Brighton.

Our world is definitely falling apart, another comfortable victory over a Championship side today, and another clean sheet. Your insight is staggering to behold!!
