Gus cools Balmy talk

Goal: Balmy scores at Hastings Goal: Balmy scores at Hastings

Gus Poyet admits Albion are in new territory in their enquiries over French prospect Jérémy Balmy.

Any deal for the Le Havre reserve team midfielder remains on hold while the Seagulls attend to various matters, including compensation.

Balmy scored for the Seagulls in a friendly at Hastings last Saturday and would be seen initially as a development squad player rather than a senior recruit.

Albion boss Gus Poyet admitted: “There are a lot of things to take into account.

“His age, compensation, the wishes of the player.

“It’s a new situation for us. We have never brought in a player of that age.”

Balmy turned down a new deal at Le Havre after making his reserve team breakthrough in the French fourth tier last season.

The 18–year-old from Paris suburb Mantes-la-Jolie is seen as a valuable asset by Le Havre although there are reservations within the coaching staff about his lack of physical strength.

Le Havre have proved they can strike a hard bargain in negotiating compensation for Charles N’Zogbia and Paul Pogba when they went to Newcastle and Manchester United respectively as teenagers.

Albion complete their training trip to Spain with a game against second division Cordoba on Saturday.

Wayne Bridge (groin), Marcos Painter (hamstring) and Craig Mackail-Smith (back) are suffering with minor injuries.

They were hoping to put themselves in the frame to face Cordoba by training today.

We knew the situation re compensation prior to the trial, so it is not really clear what the real issue with Balmy is.
Gus was adamant that Bridge would play in Spain before the party left, now it does not look quite so certain. We could be paying a lot of money for very little unless he gets match fit quickly.

Oh come on beaneye. Good idea to see someone play rather than just go on reports n'est ce pas?

Now there may or not be a deal to be done but at east it will be based on knowledge and not supposition.

As he is not in contract Le Havre are not in anything like the position of strength that they were with N'Zogbia and Pogba though.

As I said last week Wayne Bridge?? Does ring bells with where we were with Vicente last year---how long is this fitness thing going to drag on. Gus said it was nothing serious 10 days ago and still Bridge does not play. Getting silly.
Still no sign of any signings as well---at least no false promises being made.

"His age, compensation and wishes of the player'- largely, if not all known before the trial, surely. "size', come on, -I am assuming the guy did not lose physique during the game or in the shower afterwards! I don't think Gus is overly well served by the reporting, which earlier was that we had offered Balmy a contract. I entirely agree that it is good to give players a trial and take a good look at them, but did we offer terms or not? It rather looks as though we didn't. Any comment Argus?

I cannot see there being any more in the way of signings. Bridge's continued absence does cause concern and you wonder about his appetite for the game.

In terms of transfer dealings, what are Leeds all about, just signed their fourth Pompey payer and it's not as if they (Pompey)had a good season last year even if you ignore the points deduction.

Can't see them (Leeds) being in contention this year. As for the the Pompey players I wouldn't give them the time of day, particularly Kitson (Kanu and Ben Haim I can't see ever playing in this country again).

I can see there being at least one more in the way of signings and have no concerns about Bridge's appetite for the game, he is injured, that is all.
If he didn't want to play he could have stayed in Manchester.

Yep I think so but together in the midfield they will be unstoppable! Have seen and heard the same name cropping up regularly over the last few weeks and from some decent sources. I'm not saying the name because I won't believe it til he signs, and if it falls apart at the last minute I'll just look like a fantasist...

I'm pretty sure that Capt Haddock had it right from our conversation on here last week. Fingers crossed!

This all reminds me of a joke.A teacher says to Her pupils I want you to use your imagination for a while and we are going tosee how clever you are.I have something in my desk its round and orange what is it?Little Johnny puts his hand up and says I know what it is Miss it's an orange,no Johnny it's not an orange it's a satsuma but it shows you are thinking. Right children now it's our turn Peter puts His hand up and says I have got something in my pocket it's 3 inches long and its got a red end with a hole in it.The Teacher shouts at him How dare you be so disgusting Peter; He replies no it's not that Miss but it shows you are thinking.
Just thought I would bring a bit of humour to the tread as it is getting quite boring.

Coo eee. Here I am! ;0)

Yes would be great if today but anything from that rumours site is the opposite of true so not expecting anything today tbh.

Reckon we must be close though.

Hovite says...
10:49am Fri 27 Jul 12

Not everything from the rumours site is false. Bridge was mentioned in the second half of last season and Kuscszak was mentioned about a month before we signed him.

Sure there is a lot of rubbish on there, but rumours of us looking at certain type of players who are on the available list is probably close to the truth. However, enquiring about and interviewing players is different to signing them.

Looking forward to this new apparent signing, don’t know who it will be, but with the Olympics starting today most things seem to be at a standstill and I wouldn’t expect any signings until next week.

From the Amex Stadium pic of the day yesterday, it looks as though they are getting a T.V. Pundits studio ready in anticipation of something promising in the near future.
I am sure Gus will get his two signings very soon after they arrive back from Spain.

It amazes me how little tv time we get.In the first 3 months of the new season,we are on sky once in the league.Leeds who finished 4 places and 5 points behind us are on 4 times.Last season we were only on twice in the league all season. So i`m not really sure why we`ve bothered to make them feel so welcome!

It isn't all about the present, these facilities have to be built now whilst the other expansion work is being carried out otherwise there will not be room ever.
