Poyet keen to keep win in context
6:14pm Saturday 4th August 2012 in Sport By Brian Owen
Liam Bridcutt tackles Lukaku
Gus Poyet is keen to keep Albion’s friendly win over Chelsea in context.
But he was delighted and encouraged by the Seagulls’ 3-1 defeat of the European club champions at The Amex today.
Albion came from behind to win with goals from man-of-the-match Vicente , impressive Ashley Barnes and the returning Andrew Crofts .
Frank Lampard put Chelsea ahead.
Boss Poyet said: “I’m very pleased but I don’t want to take this as more than it really is.
“It was a very good game of football against top opposition.
“We found ourselves for long periods, especially in the second half, without the ball which is new for us.
“We had to defend, we had to do the ugly part of the game.
“We suffered but the boys did the basics.
“I’m very pleased for them. It was a difficult game for them.
“When they saw the (Chelsea) team listed in front of them and all the names, they started thinking about that.
“So I’m pleased for them.
“We started well until the goal, which we conceded too easily. But it was a very good reaction.”
Poyet opted not to field Wayne Bridge, Craig Mackail-Smith and Kazenga LuaLua, all of whom have minor niggles or tightness.
He added: “I would say if it was a final two of them would probably been out there.”

The signs are there that we can better last season, so I for one think that this match is the marker for a great chance of a promotion push.
Some people will say 'yeah but Chelsea were only half trying', but I'm sure RDM won't be that pleased with his team's inability to break us down.
Roll on season 2012/13....... can't wait!!!!

If Vicente plays and produces that sort of performance week in week out we will do really well. Good to see Crofts get a goal which will do him good in settling him back in.
Worried about Buckley pulling up. One of those moments when you think .......mmmmmmmmmm...
..... this may be serious.
Enjoyed it in the North stand today, made a nice change. Language though left a lot to be desired, especially with kids around!! Far too much gratuitous swearing.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we faced the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still had a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Brighton dream.
I had a dream that one day this club will rise up and live out the true meaning of its existence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident
I had a dream that one day in the green hills of Sussex the sons of former workers and the sons of former mortgage payers will be able to sit down together at the Amex.
I had a dream that one day we would have a 30,000 seat stadium, fully covered.
I had a dream that international players from many nations would make up our team.
I had a dream that the European champions would come and be taught a lesson.
I had a dream that men will one day live in this city, where they will be judged by the colour of their shirt not by the content of their character.
I had a dream today.
I have a dream that one day, down in Lancing, with its vicious nimbys, with its council having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there by the airport, a top class training facility will emerge.
I have a dream today that the Albion will again play in the top flight, where we will go to the Emirates, Old Trafford and Anfield and teach them a lesson.
I have a dream today.
But there is something that I must say to the fans who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palarse of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place. Let us seek to satisfy our thirst for the premiership by drinking from the pints of Harveys bitterness and the pies of love.
I have a dream today that many cups and shields will sit in our trophy room, along with our 1st division title and the championship title.
I have a dream today.

On the CMS front Poyet seems genuine in wanting to find the right partner for him so he can score 'More than 20 goals a season' but may have the solution in house with Barnes now the midfield seems potentially to be 'sorted' with Crofts return.

Some might say it's Messi, but Spain do ok without him.
Do we need to build the team around a big target man who can hold the ball up?
There has been talk of us building the team around CMS, while at the same time, apparently, building it around Vicente.
Is it possible that Crofty has been tempted by assurances that the side will be built around him?
You are a brave man, Pte, to suggest that the team be built around Ashley Barnes, but he is as good a candidate as any.
What I hope to see in the new season is 11 accomplished individuals who can play effectively as a team, without over-depending on any single player.
They will play with exhilerating fluidity, and be adept at changing in style and personnel, depending on the opposition.
And finding a player to build the team around will no longer be relevant.

He also clearly wants players who not only 'buy into' his playing philosophy but are capable of executing that. Players such as Vicente, Crofts, Greer, Bruno, Bridcutt and Barnes amongst others illustrate this.

I don't see the point in building a team around one or two key players - what happens when one or both are not there?
Too soon to worry about whether we have all the players we need. I'm more concerned about players still on the books that we don't need.
