Vicente's new role
9:30am Wednesday 8th August 2012 in Sport By Brian Owen

Gus Poyet is considering a new role for Vicente in the Championship.
The Albion boss started his Spanish star in a new central attacking berth in Michel Kuipers ’ testimonial last night.
Vicente converted a penalty as the Seagulls were held to a 1-1 draw by top-flight Reading.
Poyet is still searching for a new striker and has Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Hoskins out injured.
He said: “We are trying to get the best from Vicente.
“Until we get the target man, the one who is going to play between the two centre-halves, we are looking for options.
“It doesn’t mean we are always going to play like this but I think he is dangerous in there.”
Poyet added: “We got what we wanted from the game in terms of fitness and a few players had 90 minutes.
“That is what we are looking for.
“The understanding is there for periods.
“We have to maintain it for 90 minutes but that will come.
“I am sure we are better today than we were before the game.”
Wayne Bridge again missed out with a muscular injury but Poyet said he has a 99% chance of playing against Crawley on Friday.

I hope this new role includes scoring regularly, and supplying assists.

Briefly chatted to Tomasz Kuszack last night, he got annoyed about conceding the goal at the end of the game. He was a good guy and chatted for several mins. Sorry, but didn't ask about striker situ tho!! SEAGULLS!!!!
Why not, he is that good although his runs from deep will be cut out IF he is playing higher up the pitch which isnt a problem only a plus as we have quality on the wings. I think we will get a top top centre foward but we still have three weeks to go in the window and alot of players hold out until the very last minute toi decide where to go. Not great for the preparation but im sure it will be worth the wait.

I wondered why Buckley wasn't in the squad last night. I recall hearing something about an injury in the Chelsea game (the reason why Noone came on in his place .apparently). Any info anybody.
I hope we're are not going to see a recurrence of his injury woes.
I see that Poyet says that it is 99% certain that Bridge will play against Crawley. I reckon it's 50/50 that the 1% chance will come up and he won't play (if you follow my logic).

The striker/CMS situation will hopefully be sorted in the next few days, sooner rather than later given the fact we only have two fit strikers. Vicente offers another option as Poyet has stated but it might not be the most effective way of deploying him.

I just think that it's too expensive a risk to play Bridge on Friday if he's' not fully fit. I simply believe that the economics will win out.
If he plays 40 games his cost per game is about £15,000 (assumes wages, NHI etc £600,000). If he plays 20 it doubles to £30,000 and were he to only play 12 as Conelli98 speculates it increases to £50,000.
As Farside mentions and as reported on BBC Sport, Poyet is not only looking for a striker but he is also wanting to make changes to the squad - quote 'I would like to change a few players'.
Interesting to see what changes might be made and which players might move on. Any thoughts ?
Is CMS going one such change ? Since Poyet feels it is unlikely that CMS will play against Swindon is that because it would be too soon after recovering from injury ? Or is it because any club acquiring his services wouldn't want him to be 'cup tied'. Just speculating.
Intrigued by Captain H's posting that the signing of a striker is imminent. Depending on when and whom we might get a pointer to the CMS situation.

Reverting to CMS, I hope he stays and think he will. Letting him go, unless it is for a decent fee, would be admitting that we overpaid for him which I don't believe we did.
What we need is the right striking partner to play alongside him, ideally sooner rather than later.

However, if he returned and hit the net with the same consistency he did previously, I'd be happy with that. I'm still on the fence though and not too excited about the prospect of him coming back. But then again, I'm not the manager...I'll leave it to him as he knows what he's doing.
GM = Glen Murray I take it? Would you want him back??
Talk of bended knees and apologies is nonsense.
Have you never heard of protracted contract negotiations?

Must say the striker named in this quite would be interesting! ;0)
Undoubtedly he would divide opinion.
Rather. It say who I've heard yet though tbh.

A thread on NSC mentions TalkSport being on the trail this morning.
You have to say we have a great squad already but could be even better come the big KO!

The striker/CMS situation will hopefully be sorted in the next few days, sooner rather than later given the fact we only have two fit strikers. Vicente offers another option as Poyet has stated but it might not be the most effective way of deploying him.
Apart from a hernia and Knee problems in season 09/010 when at Chelsea, he has largely remained free from injury. I expect that he, along with CMS, will figure in the majority of this season's fixtures.
Ballantrrae, - B&HA are 5/1 for promotion.
Do you reckon it's 50/50 that the 20% chance will come up?

I'm with Gordon on the Murray front. He wasnt just a 20 goal striker, he was our link player, he brought others into the game and had a pretty big say in most of AB's goals too. I like others was not overly happy he chose Palace but there are 2 Sides to every story and I am led to believe that GP hardly rolled out the red carpet to retain his services. I'd like to see him return. He is just what we need if his attitude is right.

Carew still not got a club also Is Ricardo Fuller still worth a shout. ?? Bobby Z won't happen at this time.
We looked a bit lost once Vicente went off against Reading.
I'd be happy with CMS / GM front line.

Speaking of heads, his was very useful in both boxes and his reading of the game excellent.

IF he is to rejoin us that would mean a) they didn't part on particularly bad terms and b) Gus would have recognised an absence of his particular strengths and qualities from the team of last season - that we missed him!
