Cherries in for Elphick

Bournemouth want to hand Tommy Elphick a chance to relaunch his career in League One .

The Albion defender is close to completing a move along the South Coast.

Portsmouth were also thought to be interested in the 24-year-old's services.

Elphick missed last season with a ruptured Achilles but has proved his return to fitness in recent friendlies.

Good move for Tommy, he'd be 4th choice at the Albion and he needs to be playing regularly. The transfer fee will also be handy. Good luck Mr Elphick.

I love this phrase 'needs to be playing regularly' which is used for every single player, no matter their age or experience. Of course he needs to be playing! (PS: not having a go, it's just becoming a cliche.)

If he is happy with the deal then great. Don't expect much by way of a fee as Tommy just had a one year extension when injured but maybe a healthy sell-on or promotion add-on?

If it is a transfer, then I wish him well, his season long injury, has pushed him down the 'pecking order'.
He has put in some very good games for the Albion in League One.
Good luck Tommy!

Good move for Tommy. Couldn't see how he was going to get a game. Maybe GP is now starting a mini cull as alluded to earlier in week with moving players on...
Are we going to see a player coming in today as well?

Tweet from Mr Naylor this morning '@AndyNaylorArgus: Elphick deal will be confirmed today, 6 figure fee and long term deal, medical permitting. #bhafc'

I'd be more than happy with six figures (as long as there are no full-stops in there!)

I posted on the previous thread i did`nt think he would be going anywhere,(message to self keep up).So this "Transfer" must have been going on for some time, had`nt heard a word before today.I`ve got a good mate who`s a Cherries fan so i can expect a phone call! If true, then all the very best Tommy, thanks for your hard work and love for the Albion.UTA

Gald to see this 'breaking news', reported in the previous thread regarding Nooney, has been confirmed - I do sometimers get things right after all !!! Hope the 6 figure sum is a good one bearing in mind the expenses incurred over the last year... and sincerest best wishes in his new venture.

Good luck Tommy, never really progressed as a player, bit casual and lacks physical presence which is prerequisite in the Championship. Hope he has success with the Cherries.

I'm 99.9% sure I did :)

There seems to be more details in Mr Naylor's tweet than there is this report.....anyway if it is a six figure fee and a long term contract for Tommy it can only be a good thing. It was good business for the club in giving him a good contract otherwise he would have gone for nothing. I note that Portsmouth might have been interested in him - thank God Bournemouth got there first! Good luck Tommy, good solid player and will do well at Bournemouth if fully recovered.

The right move for him.

Would be a well-suited move. He has experience at that level to help him settle back in the swing. Is always going to struggle to get in the first team with even better CBs likely to be recruited in a year or two's time as well.

Good luck Tommy! A good pro and by all accounts a decent chap.

(Glad he's going to Cherries and not Pimpey....better career move tbh!!!!)

(struggle to get in OUR team, that is!)

Without Hall and Elphick it will leave us with only Greer, El-Abd and Dunk which is one centre back too few. I would rather have sold Vincelot who is a jack of all trade but master of none.

Do not agree with you there mate. Vincelot is the only indvidual in the team who can head a ball!!!!!...and he is one of the smallest!!! As much as I rate Greer, El Abd and Dunk, they can't attack a header. This is something that we badly need to improve in the team to really push us forward...as we may as well just give the ball back when it comes to corners etc...

Ermm Was it not Poyet who said Elphick was one of the best headers of the ball at the club.
Anyways I wish him all the best, he is Brighton born and bred, and has done us proud in recent years.

Hi all, does anybody know when season ticket cards are being posted out. Am a new season ticket holder so can't use last seasons.

Think I would phone the Albion if I were you, only two weeks to go before the first home game.

Not sure about his departure as I felt that with Dunk struggling (two howlers against Chelsea, one of which resulted in their goal) probably as a result of personal issues then Elphick would provide solid back up to El-Abd & Greer.

There is also the possibility of Dunk being elsewhere after January next year which would leave just two bespoke central defenders.

Re comments above Bridcutt is one of the best headers of the ball defensively I have seen.

Just because Elphick was the best 'header' in the club it doesn't mean he is a good 'header' It's all relative to the opposition.
Yes we will need another centre back if
Elphick exits the club as Hall has already done.
I wonder if we will get the young Arsenal defender Miquel who was being linked to the Albion a few weeks back.
Still dreaming of another striker. I'm not sure how long I will have to go on dreaming.......

The club normally state on website that cards are being sent out. I wouldn't worry until Wednesday/Thursday next week.

A friend of mine is in the same position and he phoned the ticket people on Tuesday. They said the season tickets would be going out in time for the first match and that there was plenty of time !
He did point out to the club that the first match (away) was less than two weeks away.

Tommy is not Gus's kind of player, but surprised he has let him go taking into consideration Greers poor discipline,El Abds injury problems AND poor discipline, and the uncertainty over Dunks off field problems.
Maybe someone on the way in?
