Bergkamp goes back to Holland

Albion misfit Roland Bergkamp has returned to Holland with VVV-Venlo on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old striker joined Albion last summer but is yet to make his first team debut.

Boss Gus Poyet said: "Roland is a great lad and good professional but things haven't worked out quite as we hoped.

"At his age and at this stage in his career he needs to be playing regular senior football and this is a good opportunity for him."

Bergkamp had a loan spell at Rochdale last season, where he made three appearances in League One.

He joined Albion from Dutch side Excelsior, where he scored eight goals in 56 appearances.

Good luck Roland... A lad who arrived full of enthusiasm, ambition and good intentions. I really hope things work out for him back home and the year wasted att he Albion hasn't dented his confidence.

Hopefully at 21 he has learnt a lot here and at Rochdale. Its been good experience for him.

I love the phrase "At his age and at this stage in his career he needs to be playing regular... football" - it is said about players of ANY age who are not wanted at a club. At which age does a player NOT need to be playing regularly?
