Thanks anyway Steve.

5:49pm

Oh dear. Genuinely feel sorry for the Sussex players. Have done so well over the whole summer but have fallen short in the two limited overs competitions and looks like they will miss out in champo too. Outplayed today by a mile. Didn't get enough runs from the position they were in and then couldn't combat the attack of Carberry and Vince early on. Short report on the website now. Full report and pics in the argus on monday if you can bear it. I'm back on Tuesday for the Somerset game. Thanks for joining me

5:45pm

There it is Katich drives Liddle for 4 through the covers. Eight wickets with 7 overs to spare

5:44pm

just 2 needed. Yardy keeps it going with a great piece of fielding

5:36pm

10 needed. start the car

5:22pm

Yardy's was pretty bad. And Joyce for that matter considering Wright was still there and he just needed to rotate the strike for a while

5:22pm

5:19pm Sat 1 Sep 12

MikeTheMan says

Oh dear, sadly an exact repeat of the T20 semi-final. One good innings by Wright, a bit of support from Nash, an incredibly slow innings by Prior and then a series of awful shots by the rest. You'll go a very long way to see a worse shot than that played by Brown.

5:20pm

50 partnership between these two now. Hants 186-2 after 25

5:17pm

Mags back into the attack and first ball is glanced for 4

5:14pm

Clutching at straws indeed. At least when T20 is one-sided it's over pretty quick. This is like a slow death. Know how Kent felt on Monday now. Hants 174-2 after 23.3

5:12pm

5:08pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Think we're clutching at straws now Steve. Nash, Wright and Prior have been great in the one-day games this year. The rest? Not so good. This game would have been all but over had we built on our great start rather than toss it away.

5:10pm

Hants scored just 27 off the last 56 balls since the first wicket went down. 156-2 off 22

5:05pm

Need 2 or 3 wickets in the next 5 overs or Sussex can kiss this one goodbye

5:04pm

Big shout in that last over for lbw but the ball from Nash hit the batsman just outside off stump

5:04pm

150 up now in the 21st over.

4:49pm

Only 4 runs off the last 3 overs with 2 wickets. Given Sussex the slightest of sniffs

4:49pm

Only 4 runs off the last 3 overs with 2 wickets. Given Sussex the slightest of sniffs

4:48pm

KAtich and Adams are the men at the crease now. IF Sussex can pick up another couple of wickets fairly qucikly then who knows.....?

4:47pm

Too little, too late. At least Sussex are attempting to fight back

4:45pm

WICKET. Beer strikes again. Vince tries to work one on the leg side and it snuck between bat and pad to hit his off stump. Might have been the googly. Vince made 58 and Hants are 130-2

4:44pm

Just 1 off that over from Liddle. Amazing how a wicket can slow things down. Just a shame that Sussex didn't get it earlier as Hants have surely got too many already. 130-1 after 14

4:41pm

Liddle down the hill now

4:41pm

4:29pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Guess we got our answer about the wicket then Steve? About 60 runs short of a challenging total.

4:41pm

4:35pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

Well we had a good rest before this game and are getting the biggest thrashing we have had for ages..not sure of the reasons but it is a major let down

4:38pm

WICKET. Carberry goes. Caught right on the rope by Liddle off the bowling of Beer. Made 68 runs off just 36 balls. Hants 129-1 after 12.4 overs

4:37pm

Another 6 from Carberry. 5 now

4:34pm

Beer on as Joyce tries something different

4:34pm

14 off that over from Nash. Going to be over very early at this rate.

4:33pm

Vince brings up his 50 off 36 balls with successive boundaries off Nash. And there goes another too. Oh dear

4:28pm

Yardy back in place of Liddle

4:28pm

4:26pm Sat 1 Sep 12

marxo says

It's very painful! We did come close in all competitions, Next year!

4:27pm

Need 3 or 4 wickets now to get back in this game. Better over that from Nash though with only 1 off it. 95-0 after 10

4:24pm

50 up for Carberry off 25 balls as he smashes Liddle for a six and then 3 fours in a row. Not even 9 overs and Hants are 94-0

4:21pm

Couple of boundaries off Nash's first over so Hants are 75-0 after 8. Already broken the back of Sussex's total. Only need 145 off 32 which should be fairly comfortable. Hants taking batting powerplay

4:17pm

Nash on in place of Mags. Has a habit of changing games. Can he do it again? Sussex badly need something

4:16pm

Another 6 for Carberry. This time straight off Liddle. Looks in prime form

4:15pm

4:07pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

We have flattered to deceive...after. Good start our middle order was exposed as weak...and now our boling is being dismissed as nothing much too.....i fear the worst which is an embarrassement.

4:13pm

Liddle on in place of Yards. Taken the most wickets for Sussex this season in CB40 so let's hope he can come up with another couple now

4:12pm

Vince hits Mags for succesive fours then Carberry launches him for a huge six to bring up the Hants 50. 55-0 after 6 and Sussex already in big trouble

4:08pm

Carberry hits successive fours off Yardy and Hants are 40-0 after 5. Looking very easy at the moment

4:06pm

Just over 4,000 here today. Not bad but could have been better. Let's hope they are treated to an exciting finish and Sussex win

4:06pm

Carberry smashed Magoffin for 6 down the ground. He can't have been given that treatment too much this season. Hants 31-0 after 4. Sussex need to put the brakes on. Wickets would do it

4:04pm

4:00pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

Well steve ...given up already? Not the start we hoped for

4:01pm

Not a good start from Wernars. Magoffin down the hill now and his second ball goes for 4. Hants 16-0 after 8 balls

3:54pm

3:25pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Albion one up. CMS! Hope our bowlers are in inspired form too today.

3:48pm

Here we go then. Think Wernars is going to open the bowling. Carberry and Vince first in

3:46pm

Dave Brooks on the radio during the interval. Said the ECB need to sort out the fixtures after playing finals day straight after a Champo match

3:25pm

Sussex finish on 219-8. Good effort from Mags and Beer but that's disappointing after being 159-1 and 195-3. Still should be a competitive total to defend and we could be in for a very good game. Ervine 3-36 and Briggs 2-32 were the pick of the bowlers.

3:20pm

Bit of both really. But I think it is telling that Wright has been the only batsman to really get to grips with thw wicket.  Think it is a bit hard to time your strokes. Sussex 215-8 going into the final over.

3:19pm

3:14pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Steve, you said the wicket had shown a few signs of acting up. Is this the case or is it just that the batsmen gave their wickets away?

3:18pm

Boundary. Wood drops short and Beer clumps him over midwicket for 4. Important runs

3:16pm

206-8 after 38

3:13pm

Not the cleverest of shots marxo. These two need to scramble as many runs as possible from the last 3 overs. 215 would be decent now which 5 overs ago would have looked very poor

3:12pm

3:08pm Sat 1 Sep 12

marxo says

That was stupid by Yardy especially in this situation. Bat out your overs!!

3:09pm

200 up finally.

3:07pm

3:05pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

This is crazy. Just like the T20 all over again. One man makes a big score and everyone else throws their wicket away.

3:07pm

WICKET. Yardy goes for 1. Came down the track to Griffiths and misses. Clipped top of off stump. Sussex 199-8

3:07pm

2:59pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

Nobody is surprised by murrays failure...his form has really deserted him in all forms....

Looks like we will now be below 250 and i am getting concerned

3:03pm

WICKET. Falling apart here. Wernars goes for 1 as he miscues a pull off Ervine striaght to midwicket. 4 wkts in 7 balls. Sussex 197-7. Beer in

2:59pm

Both men at crease haven't faced a ball yet.

2:59pm

2:58pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Great knock by Luke but all going horribly wrong now. Just as well we had wickets in hand.

2:59pm

2:57pm Sat 1 Sep 12

marxo says

Oh dear, things starting to go wrong.

2:59pm

WICKET. Three wickets in three balls as Brown goes for a golden duck. Fished at one and edged Ervine to Bates. Wernars in now

2:57pm

WICKET. It's Wright too. Tried an uppercut off Ervine and is caught above his head by Briggs at short third man. Made 122 and gets a warm round of applause.

2:55pm

Sun has finally peeked through at Hove

2:54pm

Yardy new man. Thought they might have gone for Wernars

2:53pm

WICKET. Goodwin goes next ball as he drives Griffiths straight to short extra cover. Made 10. Sussex 195-1

2:52pm

SIX/ From Goodwin this time off Griffiths who is having a 'mare

2:52pm

Wright on 122. His best in List A is 125

2:51pm

SIX. Full toss from Griffiths is smashed out of the ground by Prior. 10 off the last 2 balls.

2:50pm

Edge from Wright flies past the wicketkeeper and the crowd finally have a boundary to cheer

2:49pm

Griffiths back on. He's been expensive so far so can Sussex take him on? 176-3 after 34

2:47pm

Yep. Boundaries really dried up. Might suggest the pitch is getting slightly harder to bat on.... let's hope so

2:47pm

2:44pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

Seems a struggle now and under 250 quite possible.

2:45pm

Ooooh that one kept very low. first sign of variable bounce

2:44pm

Indeed BB. Happy to play supportive role at first but then couldn't go up through the gears. Sussex 171-3 after 32. Total of 230 looking a better bet at the moment

2:43pm

2:42pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Sounds like a strange innings by Prior today. Never really got going.

2:43pm

Wright and Prior partnership was worth 88 and came off 100 balls exactly.

2:38pm

Could this be Goodwin's last one-day innings for Sussex? Probably unless they reach the final. Sussex 165-3 after 30 overs.

2:37pm

Could be right TC

2:37pm

2:32pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

The batting power play is often the kiss of death....joyce in to do the big hitting?

2:37pm

2:30pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

Prior on 95?i wish....

2:37pm

WICKET. Joyce goes for a duck. Caught on the long on boundary off Briggs. Goodwin is new man. Sussex 164-3 after 29.4

2:36pm

100 up for Wright. Consecutive century in one-dayers for him. Came off 84 balls with 14x4 and 2x6

2:30pm

WICKET. Prior steps across his stumps and is bowled around his legs by Wood for 28. Took him 52 balls too. Joyce new man. Sussex 159-2

2:28pm

Batting powerplay taken. Let's see what happens now!

2:28pm

Sussex 158-1 after 28 so they have slowed down a little but if Wright and Prior are there with 10 overs to go and well set you can see them scoring at close to 10 an over. 280 may be a little ambitious but I think they are just getting into position for a final assualt. Prior on 95

2:25pm

2:23pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

Hampshire seem to have us well in check now...dont see how we get to 280 and that would be great...they may keep us below 250 unless someone cuts loose.

2:23pm

Wright moves into the 90s as he pulls Griffiths for 4

2:22pm

150 up as Wright adds 2 to his toal.

2:21pm

Prior has 28 off 45 balls. Unusual for him. Got to expect him to start taking on the bowling soon.

2:20pm

Dawson bowled out. Finished with figures of 0-35 from his eight overs. Fairly tidy stuff. Sussex 148-1 after 26.4

2:17pm

Pitch looks okay for batting. If these two stay there and can cut loose in the final 10 overs then I reckon they could get 280ish. Still got some decent batting to come but not as explosive as these two. Anything over 250 would be difficult to chase

2:15pm

2:07pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

So whats par on this steve? Against kent on a dodgy wicket 300 didnt appear a problem , but today i dont expect we can do that...can you guess a total? 259?

2:15pm

Sussex are 144-1 after 25 overs. Felt like they had not been going that fast over the last 5 overs but they added 33 from them. Wright 84, Prior 27

2:11pm

Sussex happy to milk the bowling at the moment. Keeping the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs with singles. Just as a type Wright thrashes a boundary through extra cover. Moves on to 83 and Prior on 24. Sussex 139-1 after 24

2:04pm

No TC. Stayed well clear of that!

2:04pm

1:59pm Sat 1 Sep 12

triple century says

I am here Steve...small issue of forgotten password...did you cover the Pride Parade?

2:04pm

Not bad crowd but not packed out by any means. Think Albion and Pride have had an affect

2:03pm

1:53pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Guess everyone is so wrapped up in the Seagulls that people have forgotten the cricket, Steve. Is there a decent crowd at Hove today?

2:03pm

Wood back into the attack. This time down the hill

2:02pm

1:51pm Sat 1 Sep 12

bruce beckett says

Another ton for Luke would be terrific.

2:02pm

1:38pm Sat 1 Sep 12

marxo says

Yes Steve hi, just don't like looking when we're batting 'cause 'wicket' comes up quicker here than the pictures!

2:02pm

50 partnership from these two now. Come at a decent lick too. Sussex 122-1. Wright 78, Prior yet to ignite on 17

1:57pm

Another misfield from Shafayat allows a straight drive from Wright go for 4. Not having a good day!

1:56pm

Sussex are 111-1 at the halfway stage of their innings so good position to push for 250+. Wright on 71 now, Prior 15

1:46pm

Wright drives Ervine down the ground for 4 to bring up the 100 for Sussex off 17 overs. Wright is on 64 and looking really good, Prior 11

1:44pm

Boundaries had dried up a little until Ervine tries to dig one in and it sits up nicely for Wright to hook for six towards the pavilion. Didn't get hold of it but still had enough to clear the ropes. Can't pitch short on this wicket I'm afraid. Sussex 97-1 after 16.5

1:37pm

There's a wedding taking place at Hove today. Quite funny to see two old boys sitting watching the cricket rather than getting involved in the nuptials! Sussex 84-1 after 14.4

1:32pm

Anybody out there or am I blogging to no-one today? Remember you can send me your comments or questions at any time. Just let me know I'm not wasting my time!

1:30pm

Wright brings up his 50 with a single off new bowler Ervine. Came off 37 balls so going at a decent pace

1:30pm

Wright moves on to 49 with a lovely straight drive for 4 off Briggs. Sussex 76-1 after 12

1:27pm

Prior is the new man. These two won the game against Kent so hopefully they can do something similar

1:26pm

WICKET. Nash had not been able to score for a while and perhaps got a little frustrated. Took on Briggs in his first over and got a big edge with the catch looping to Ervine at short third man. Made 26. Sussex 71-1 in the 12th

1:23pm

10 off that over from Dawson so Sussex are really starting to motor. Were 25-0 after 5 and have moved on to 71-0 after 11. Change of bowling with Briggs at sea end.

1:19pm

DROP. Wright pulls GRiffiths straight to Shafayat on square leg boundary but he puts it down. Wright was 35. Can he make Hants pay?

1:16pm

First six of the game as Wright launches Griffiths straight down the ground and over the stand at the sea end.

1:15pm

Powerplay taken so field is still in. Sussex bring up the 50 in the 10th over

1:10pm

Griffiths doesn't learn his lesson and gives Wright another ball outside the off stump and Wright rocks back to cut for 4. Next ball is pitched up and Wright drives him over extra cover. 4 boundaries off the over. 16 off it in total. Sussex 46-0 after 8

1:08pm

Successive fours for Wright off Griffiths. First one slashed over the top on the offside then crashed along the ground to the ropes.

1:06pm

Wright finally breaks the shackles. Had hit just 2 off his first 13 balls but then clips Dawson uppishly through midwicket for 4. Sussex 30-0 after 7

1:03pm

Maiden first up for Griffiths. 25-0 after 6. 2 maidens already with Dawson also sending down one.

1:00pm

Change of bowling. Griffith on for Wood at sea end. Not surprising after that last over.

12:59pm

Three boundaries in the one over from Wood. Lovely cut off a short pitched ball then the next is over pitched and he blocks it straight down the ground. Sussex 25-0 after 5. Nash on 23 and Wright 2

12:53pm

Maiden from Dawson. Spin is already looking a key part of this game on a worn pitch. Should only get worse too so Sussex's trio will have big roles to play. 8-0 after 3

12:52pm

Big spin there from Dawson as he beats the forward defensive of Nash. Encouraging for Sussex's spinners. Sussex 8-0 after 2

12:47pm

Certainly not packed at Hove yet. PLenty of space if you fancy coming down. Wood to bowl up the hill now. Single off the first over

12:43pm

Here come the teams. Nash and Wright to open for Sussex which isn't surprising after the way they played on Monday. Joyce happy to drop down the order. Dawson to open the bowling

12:41pm

Old pitch this one from earlier in the season. Looks in decent condition though. Might swing a bit early on with the overcast conditions. Outfield at the sea end is in a bit of a state from the JLS concert on Monday.

12:25pm

No Monty for Sussex again. He seems to have slipped off the radar in one day stuff. Beer is the preferred option as he can field and bat a bit. Also got Nasher and Yards so plenty of spin in the side.

12:24pm

Mascarenhas is still unfit for Hants while McKenzie is unavailable. Shafayat comes in for them from their last game.

Hants: Carberry, Vince, Adams, Dawson, Katich, Ervine, Bates, Shafayat, Wood, Briggs, Griffiths

12:23pm

Sussex stick with the side which beat Kent on Monday. Robbo said that Amjad was still struggling a little on Thursday when I spoke to him so Magoffin retains his place. Think that is a good move anyway as he offers good control.

Sussex: Nash, Wright, Prior, Goodwin, Brown, Yardy, Joyce, Wernars, Magoffin, Beer, Liddle

12:17pm

Sussex have won the toss and elected to bat

12:17pm

Looks like Sussex have won the toss as Sky are talking to Joyce. Expect he will bat first but can't confirm that yet

12:07pm

Hello and welcome to Hove. It's very overcast here but no rain and the forecast suggests we should stay dry. Game starts at 12.45 so we'll have the toss and team news shortly

Oh dear what a dreadfu middle order collapse, this has been commonplace for a while now and the bowling was generally poor. Well played Luke Wright
and unlucky to be on losing side. I feel that once the championship is over we may well have seen the last of murray,a shame to end on such a low,I think its his poorest season ever and again think Browns batting is poor. Lets hope we can remain 2nd in Championship but we do look a weary side at the moment.
