Sussex v Somerset LIVE
10:14am Friday 7th September 2012 in Sport By Steve Hollis
This live event has finished
2:42pm
That's it from me for the season then. Not going to Durham so farewell until next summer. Somerset are second in the table now, a point ahead of Sussex. Short report on the website and full report in The Argus tomorrow. Thanks for joining me.
2:39pm
That's it. Somerset win. Trego flicks Mags off his legs to the boundary to seal a quite remarkable victory. not looking forward to going to get some quotes after this one!
2:34pm
Hildreth brings up his century off 174 balls. Just about made it in time as Somerset only need three more
2:31pm
11 needed now. Oh dear
2:23pm
Trego sweeps Nash for 6 now and Somerset need 28
2:18pm
Big call from Joyce as he replaces Monty with Nasher. Will the gamble come off. Has to or Sussex are doomed
2:12pm
Huge appeal as the ball loops up off Hildreth to Brown behind the stumps but umpire says there was no bat involved. Monty is not best pleased with that.
2:10pm
For some reason comments don't seem to be coming through. Not sure whether that is because everyone is so cheesed off with the way this game is going or the blog has broken down again. Anyway Somerset need another 41. Should cruise it from here
2:08pm
If Somerset win this it will be the third highest 4th innings score against Sussex. Essex made 412-3 at Hove to win in 1993 and Warwickshire made 405-7 in 2002 to win. Looks like they will do it too
2:05pm
Magoffin replaces Anyon at Cromwell Rd end. Last throw of the dice this. Need a couple of quick wickets
2:01pm
Trego brings up his 50 by sweeping Monty for 6. Has come off just 46 balls too. 50 the target now
1:59pm
Trego smashes Anyon for successive 4s. Time for Jimmy to take a blow I think and get Mags back on. Got to be Monty and Mags from here surely with Somerset needing only 57 more
1:51pm
Monty time. Desperately need some magic
1:50pm
Somerset have made the highest score of the match now on the final day. 315-5
1:44pm
300 up for Somerset as Hildreth edges Hatchett for 4. Means the Cidermen need less than 100 to pull off an unlikely win which would see them jump above Sussex into second place
1:41pm
You'd probably say that Somerset are slight favourites now
1:37pm
Three successive 4s off Hatchett for Trego and Somerset need just 106 to win. I say just because I think the majority of the people who turned up at Hove this morning expected Sussex to roll them over fairly quickly - me included! Instead this is going to be very close indeed. Anyon back into the attack in place of Magoffin at Cromwell Rd end.
1:10pm
Here come the players again after lunch. Hopefully Sussex have got a plan to get rid of Hildreth and Trego. Once they go it should be all over pretty quick. If they stick around for another hour or so then this is going to become very interesting

I'm not sure we quite have enough runs to play with for Anyon to start leaking them like this. At least Magoffin's keeping it relatively tight.

No clatter - except from Hildreths bat!
12:32pm
That's lunch and Somerset are 252-5. So much for having the afternoon off! Looks like we'll be here until tea now. Sussex will start to get worried if the lead gets under 100 and they still have 5 wkts left
12:25pm
50 for Hildreth off 108 balls with 8x4.

"New ball taken. Mags gets first use down the hill. Somerset 255-4"
Was that a prediction?

He would be a good foil for the occasionally shot-bound Cook. Nash rarely gets bogged down. Good 5th/6th bowler, as you say - far more dangerous than the filth Trott dishes up.

Hi Steve & morning all - reckon we're in for a nerve-wracking day here.
Re your 1030am point 2. on Murray - do you reckon Sussex have lined up a batsman to replace him during the past month ? Also if Nash were to be away with England the need for experienced batters would increase !
12:10pm
WICKET. New ball does the trick. Fifth ball with it and Mags gets one to lift and leave Barrow slightly who edges to Prior at first slip. Made 40, Somerset 231-5. Hopefully this will spark the clatter of wickets we are predicting. Trego in
12:06pm
New ball taken. Mags gets first use down the hill. Somerset 255-4
11:59am
Chance goes down. Hildreth gets an inside edge of Nasher but Brown doesn't get a glove on it. Tough one
11:47am
Drinks.
11:44am
I've written an article in today Argus where Robbo has urged the England selectors to consider Nash for the vacant opener's spot in the Test side. Third highest English qualified run scorer in the Champo this season and has 20 wickets to boot. Robbo also said he doesn't expect him to get picked

Just noticed that Nasher is that rarest of cricketers - one whose batting average is (notably) higher than his bowling average!
11:41am
Nash on to bowl now. Not much going on out there. Wickets have fallen in clusters in this game so Sussex just need to make that breakthrough. Somerset 208-4.
11:19am
Not overly aggressive TRR. Nash at short-leg and Yardy at slip and all the rest in the ring but not close in.

Are we being aggressive with out field placings? I'd like to see 7 fielders in close when Monty's bowling :-)

Re #2 I wonder if the offer was on the proviso of an upturn in form.
11:02am
Hatchett replaces Mags at the top end. Somerset added 26 runs so far this morning with not too much alarm. Got to think that if you get one it might spark a collapse
10:30am
Had a chat with Murray last night and he said a few interesting things.
1. He's not retiring and has already been contacted by a few counties.
2. He was told a couple of months ago that he was in Sussex's plans next year only to be told on Sunday they weren't renewing his contract.
3. There is a slim chance he could be back at Sussex next year if the county fail to replace him.
10:29am
Here we go then on the final day at Hove. Another 6 wickets needed so lets hope Sussex can wrap this up fairly quickly and I can have the afternoon off in the sun! Magoffin to open up down the hill. Free entry today so come down if you fancy a couple of hours of cricket in lovely conditions

I wonder if anyone at Sussex really expected Muzz to continue doing so badly?!
Back to today and once again we have a big partnership building. No afternoon off I fancy!!
