Mattock wants to help Owls get wise
1:58pm Thursday 13th September 2012 in Sport By Brian Owen
On the run: Joe Mattock crosses for Albion at Burnley last season
Former Albion loanee Joe Mattock wants to help his new club get wise to Albion.
Mattock is hoping to make his Sheffield Wednesday debut tomorrow at The Amex.
It would be perfect timing for the left-back against the side he served on loan from West Brom last season.
Mattock joined Wednesday as a free agent this summer but has had to wait for his chance to play.
He told the Sheffield Star: "Hopefully I’ll play. I have a good bond with Brighton because I was there last season and was in really good form. I know them inside out but hopefully we can turn them over.
“If I do play then I’ll definitely take the opportunity with both hands. The reason why I’ve not been in is that we’ve been playing well.”

I think you are being a tad harsh, at least this is a story rather than the non story about what Gus will not do.
I hope Mattock does play because Tug509 is bang on the money in his opinion of Mattock compared to Bridge.
Mattock claims to know us, "inside and out," if that is true, not sure how he "knows," about our new signings, he will know that Wednesday are no match for Brighton. A draw would be a great result for them, but I don't see them getting it.

I don't think that we should write Wednesday off completely, they do have a decent striker and a couple of dangerous midfield players.
Possesion will be vital, we must command the midfield and stifle any ambitions they might have of scoring on the break.

A convincing win will ring out loud through the championship. If we take this game in our stride then every team will have to stand up and take note.
I think friday evening will see a battle rather than a fight. I am sure that Wednesday will show us respect, they know that we have quality but I don't think they will shy in coming forward. If they sit back, come for the draw, we will beat them and they know it.

Waiting goes on for injured Vicente.
VICENTE has still not resumed training with Albion, raising fresh doubts over how often the Spaniard will play this season.
An inflamed thigh tendon has limited the ex-Valencia star to one brief substitute appearance in the Championship so far.
Manager Gus Poyet confirmed to The Argus Vicente is not back in training yet and said Albion are monitoring his availability ''day by day".
The influential attacking midfielder was in conflict with the club this summer when they triggered a one-year option clause in his contract.
He was used as a striker towards
the end of the pre-season
programme and in the opening
Capital One Cup defeat at
Swindon but the Seagulls have
now signed Stephen Dobbie from
Swansea to unlock opposition
defences.
Repeating fitness issues restricted Vicente, 31. to 11 starts for Albion

I don't think it's a case of bashing Vicente, I think it's more a case of, is the man an asset or not. It's great having him at the club, his talents are certainly respected and wanted, the problem is a niggle has now turned into a long term injury.
The player is on a one year contract and we might well need him if injuries or suspensions take their toll, the question is, will he be available.
Right now he is not in full training, when he recovers he will need to get match fit, how many matches will have passed by then, and how many times would we have wanted to play him but not been able to.
Promotion will require a squad of 25 players, we have started with 24. The tough question has to be asked, can we afford to pay out money on an asset that is not available or do we spend that money on an asset that is available.
Agreeing that it is not his fault, accepting that injuries need time to repair, respecting his talent, all of that does not make him ready to play and that is what we need. This year of all years I think the same would be said of all the players in the squad. ,

He will love football and the thought of playing with his mates in front of 25k outdoes anything else on offer. I also think that his whole problem during the summer was the fact that his lady had a baby and most of us know what that can do the her state of mind. she probably wanted to stay in the safety of her own country with mum nearby. Thats puts Vicente in a difficult position but he mangaes to talk her round. then the poor bloke goes and gets another injury. He must be really Pxxxxx off.

Firstly as Hanover suggested earlier on this thread there will indeed be a period of silence before the game to mark the terrible Hillsborough tragedy.
Secondly expect a record crowd as the match is a 'sell-out' which has resulted in the new season ticket exchange scheme being triggered.
Thirdly the club have confirmed that the current capacity is 27,000 and will 'shortly go up to over 30,000'.
Fourthly as the Real Ryfish and others have said Wednesday are going to be tough oppostion. If either side Wednesday or the Albion win tonight they will go top of the Championship.
On top of all those items there is the prospect of some of the new signings appearing for the Albion for the first time or in Hammond's case reappearing.
I am really disappointed to be missing the game as I am still on Holiday in France but hope to be able to listen to the match on Radio 5 Live.
One other comment. I was slightly surprised that Poyet and Burke didn't take the opportunity during the international break to sign on loan either the Target man or CB that Poyet is on record as still wanting to recruit. It would have provided the opportunity to start getting such players integrated into the Albion playing style in the same way he has been able to use the break with messrs Dobbie, Lopez etc.
I say only slightly surprised since the search for a suitable Target man has been going on for more than a year now and we seem to be no closer to finding that 'Holy Grail' than we were 12 months ago.
Here's to a positive result tonight, UTA.

So, back to Mattock and SW tomorrow evening. these guys have brought in some serious numbers since the end of last season and some of them look top quality signings for them. Mattock is certainly no Bridge but if we had signed him I think that most of us would have been happy with him and at the other end of the pitch they've just signed the big guy we were supposedly trying to get in, Bothroyd.
I think tomorrow will be an absolute cracker with an abundance of goals. It's going to be real tough but I see a win with the shoreline being 4-3. UTA
3-1 to The Albion (CMS, Bruno and Dobbie the probable scorers).

Firstly Vegas; your use of the word rediculous is ridiculous, and both you and Tug are spitting the dummy at the club over the way "you think" the club and Vicente should report to you.
I don't owe you any more respect than what you are giving Vicente.
It's not what you say, it's the way you say it, and the repetitive nature of it that irritates me. Just like a broken record.

As Tug pointed out the only thing that he and I are calling for is clarification as to his injury and if he still wants to be at the club.
Poyet told us pre-season that Vicente was finding it hard to return, hard for personal reasons.
You seem to be of the opinion that no one has the right to expect answers to basic questions regarding Vicente. Every fan has a right to be interested and every fan has a right to expect answers. Again Tug is right when he say, 'the player himself can end the speculation.' Gus can, and will, only tell us so much, Vicente owes it to the fans to tell the rest.
Neither Tug or I would want to see him return to Spain but if that is where his heart is he should come clean.
Vicente is special on the pitch but off of it, he is just another player in the squad and right now he is off the pitch. Just because you think it's ok for him to take a paycheck and return nothing it doesn't mean that all the fans think that way.
