Blackburn go top, Albion joint second

Blackburn went top of the Championship in dramatic style this afternoon.

Overnight leaders Albion are now neck and neck with Blackpool for second place.

Blackburn looked to have blown their chance of going a point clear when they twice conceded equalisers at Bristol City.

But Scott Dann and Jordan Rhodes, with his second goal of the game, both scored in added time to give Rovers a thrilling 5-3 win.

Blackpool, who were top 24 hours ago, drew 1-1 at Barnsley.

Thomas Ince’s 30th-minute leveller means the Tangerines and the Seagulls have exactly the same record – three wins, a draw and a defeat with 11 goals scored and three conceded.

Former Albion striker Craig Davies put the Tykes ahead at Oakwell.

Nottingham Forest came from two down to draw 2-2 with Birmingham.

Hull and Cardiff are level on points with Albion and Blackpool after winning at home today.

Previously goalshy Hull did all their scoring in the first half to thump Millwall 4-1 at the KC Stadium.

Peter Whittingham’s penalty proved to be the winner as Cardiff beat Leeds 2-1. All the goals came after the 64th-minute exit of Craig Noone, whose substitute Craig Bellamy got the opener.

Albion’s next opponents Watford lost 2-1 at Bolton.

There's no such thing as joint 2nd in a football league table?

Joint automatic promotion place will do for me.
We are now seeing the cream coming to the top. Shame saints are still on Nil points after 4 games. They are an embarrassment to the south coast.

I don't know if it's just my imagination but this year there seams to be more leaky defences than last. Every week there are so many goals being scored, eight just in the Blackburn match.

If I am right this bodes well for Brighton because we have a solid back four, a fantastic keeper and fire power up front.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe it's just my fading memory playing tricks.

As you say they are leaking at the seams, sorry couldn't help it.It makes for great entertainment as long as we continue this way the future looks amazing.I would love us to give a top six team a thumping.

...The Amex. Two years ago we were playing in front of 6,500 and last night there was 20,000 more bums on seats. A fantastic effort by all last night. To have all four sides of the stadium singing, is a sight to behold. lets make every game a noise fest and keep the Amex rocking. Can we not adopt a song abit like Celtics' just can't get enough'? any ideas anyone? UTA

What place in the league were Sheffield Wednesday when we beat them last night? Sixth I believe, therefore we we have delivered the "thumping" already.

The future looks VERY bright.

If you blinked you missed it... Hope CMS didn't see it. He will wonder what he did to upset Nooney who provided 2 footed service to the Cardiff strikers that we didn't see here for far too long. Never mind, we have ample solutions in this team. Only Paddy Power seem to have doubts about our potential offering 9/2 on a top 6 finish. My alter ego, Mr Angry from Bexhill, just wants to change the subject for a minute or two. Living in East Sussex, he rarely buys the Argus as there's hardly ever any general news about the east of the county, that isn't better covered by a local paper. However, he does normanly get a copy the morning following a match, just to read the Albion match report etc.Lat week his wife moaned because she had to pay an inreased price of 65p. Quite a hike fo one increase. On Saturday he purchased a copy, and this time had to pay 85p.
Don't know if anyone from the Argus executive reads this stuff, if you do, an explanation regading this rip off would be appreciated. Thanks.
Back to the footy Brilliant match, brilliant score, brilliant crowd' Lifes good(apart from the price o the Argus) UTA

I see Bobby Z was playing against Chelsea yesterday, watched by hardly 18,000. If he comes back home to us he can play in front of a decent crowd.

Adkins is one of the best things to happen in years for the Saints, crazy talk.
If Brighton get promoted we will find, just as Saints did, that most of the squad are not good enough to make the transition, survive your first year if you can and continue to build.
What would Rednap bring that Adkins hasn't got.

I think of the current squad the following are capable of making the jump. TK, Bridge, Bruno, Bridcutt, Dunk,Hammond, Crofts, Buckley, CMS, Lua Lua. Too early to include the other new lads, but I suspect they wouldn't be embarrassed at that level. I don't suppose many will agree with my views, but I honestly believe if they all stay together they can perform in the Premiership.

Funny old game football. Had Soton started the season with games against some of the lesser mortals in the Premiership, they would probably have picked up a couple of points. Now their confidence must be very low and they would surely struggle to give the Albion a decent game. Adkins may struggle to survive but it has to be acknowledged that he has done a lot for Soton. Turning to Alfie T's posting.. yes, I think a lot of Albion's players could step up but much as I like Lua Lua's impact when he plays, not entirely convinced there. Has he actually played a full game in the Championship for the Akbion? Perhaps he has but I cannot remember it - please advise if I'm wrong!

I like your selection with the possible exception of Dunk. Your players are, all bar Dunk, regular starters and as you say, too early to comment on the new lads, but I would choose all three.
Bridge will be one year older and may not want Prem football, America beckons for him me thinks.
Between us we have about 13 selected, that would leave 14 from the current 25 not making the trip, remove my two question mark players, and Vicente and that would make my number 17 not making the trip. We are close in our thinking.

I still have high hopes for Dunk, without doubt he has other things on his mind and that has affected his performances, before his indiscretion he was attracting interest from Premiership sides. I still think he is very much in the Albion's plans, he is a classy player and will be a high quality centre back.

He, his lady, young one and club intepretor have been actively looking at priivate schools this week. This is surely a good sign that he intends to stick around. Now lets just hope he can get fit soon since with him in the squad our chances are even better. This is all I have to say on the subject. What a game on Friday, absolutely chuffed.

The club have built a pretty strong squad to assault the dizzy heights we strive though the here & now is to debate the last match, the next match, the current issues. There is still along way to go to say that player isnt good enough, he wont make the step etc etc. One thing is common for all of us mass debaters (lol), is our love for the Albion

This if true is great news. There can be as much rumour and speculation on here as we like but you don't look for a school for your child if you are going back to Spain next month. Whilst we seem to be in no way dependent on him this season we're certainly better with him than without. When fit he's still the best we've got imo and that's against some pretty stiff competition this year.

Unbelievable. I'm no fan of Adkins as a man but what he's done for them since he arrived has been nothing short of miraculous. If he doesn't get the whole season it will be a disgrace, although if they're rock bottom at Christmas I suspect he won't. Wigan at home was a bad defeat but apart from that what did they expect to realistically get from Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal?! Short memories. After Friday night's great entertainment and the warm glow we have all had since it seriously makes me wonder if I even want to go up. Trouble is with no ambition then nights like Friday lose their meaning so I guess I'll just have to cope with the Premiership rollercoaster if we get there.

I agrree Too many Harveys, it's good to be reminded of the harsh realities of the top flight. I was at the Goldstone when we were beaten on our first, First Division match 0-4 against Arsenal.

I thought Shampton were fairly well equiped for the Prem, albeit a rotten starting fixture list and still too soon to judge their season. Reading are also having a slow start in this league.

The best way to step up to the Prem is to win promotion by a country mile and to really be the best of the Championship, and to more or less start in the Prem with the team who wins promotion.

But did you not notice that all the goals were scored AFTER Noone was substituted. He is a great dribbler, but is always in so much of a hurry that his shots or passes are invariably weak or inaccurate. There were many occasions last season when he decided to shoot instead of pass to a better placed colleague. IMHO £1m is a good return for a talented but infuriatingly inconsistent player.
Maybe Malky Mackay will tell him to stick to the wing and provide the crosses for others. If he does this well, it will be a good signing for them.
In my opinion, Vicente is a similar, but far, far better player than noone will ever be.
