Orlandi: We need to cut out soft goals

Andrea Orlandi admits Albion will make life a lot easier for themselves if they stop conceding soft goals.
The Seagulls went behind for the second successive home game last night but fought back to draw 1-1 with Ipswich.
Orlandi impressed in the first half on his first home start but admitted it was a frustrating evening.
He said: “Ipswich defended well and waited for a chance to counter attack.
“We have to make sure we defend and do not concede sloppy goals, especially before we score one.
“We didn’t play as well as we could.
“We have to be more focused, don’t concede goals and if we can get 1-0 up it will be easier for us to play.”
Orlandi was pleased Albion managed to grab a point through Will Buckley’s 80th-minute strike.
He added: “When you lose the feeling is the worst. One point for us is not really good enough but at least we were able to come back and we could have won it.”
The Spaniard revealed he left the action with cramp which was related to the flu which kept him out of the defeat by Birmingham but will be fit to face Derby on Saturday.
Leading marksman Craig Mackail-Smith will not be ready to return from hamstring trouble at Derby but Poyet expects Bruno (groin) to play at Pride Park and rates Andrew Crofts (hamstring) 50-50.

Derby will come out more as the home side on Saturday, which could suit us.
Bruno's return will help, although it would be wrong to overlook the fact that it was Caldi's cross that created the goal for Will Buckley.
Perhaps, in the absence of CMS and Will Hoskins young Mr Barker could be a good option on the bench, given his current form.

Wonderful, to hear one of our ineffective, inefficient, midfield/forward players say that our defence, one of the tightest in the league, must improve is just a little bit on the rich side... Passing the buck by any chance...?

As an Albion fan living abroad I post the question would we have beaten either Birmingham or Ipswich with CMS in the lineup? And do we think Gus will risk him on Saturday with the international break coming up?

When they use the word, 'they,' that can mean a section of the team such as the defense but when they use the word, 'we,' then they are talking about the team as a whole.

I am sure that he includes himself when he says, 'we need to cut out the soft goals.' One of the things that makes our defense so good is that everybody, including CMS, chase back to help out. The statement is correctto my way of thinking. ,

If 'the team' wants to walk away with 3 points from every game then it is there that we need an improvement and that is a problem not to be laid at the door of the defence.

Still believe George Barker should be given the opportunity to shine up front, bags of talent and although not the big target man, he would cause problems with pace and skill. Dobbie, by his own admission, has taken longer to settle in than he'd hoped, fair to give him some time, things don't always click straight away in a new place.

A number of Posters, myself included, have commented that we need a target man/ striker. Indeed Poyet for sometime has said he wants one as well.
Whilst such a player would make it easier potentially for the Albion to unsettle Birmingham and Ipswich style defences I don't think that is the only solution, just part of one.
Against Barnsley, Sheffield and Cardiff we played with 'Tempo'. This was missing for large parts of both the Birmingham and Ipswich games.
When we play the ball out slowly from the back we become predictable and a bit one paced. When against the likes of Wednesday we had Bruno and Bridge pushing forward we made things happen and controlled the games.
I don't think it was a coincidence that these last two disappointing performaces coincided with Bruno being injured. I think he has been missed more than is at first glance apparent. I trust that he will be fit for the Derby game.
With the exception of Bruno it looks as if we will have more or less the same side against Derby. On this occasion I hope Poyet has someone like Agdestein or Barker on the Bench.
Incidently I liked what I saw of Orlandi last night. UTA.
