Poyet happy after draw

Gus was happy with draw and the Derby Ram looks pretty content as well (photo Simon Dack)
Gus Poyet felt Albion could have won at Derby today.
But he was pleased they saw out a 0-0 draw after missing chances to go ahead.
Albion played some attractive football and the Seagulls boss said: “I think we were decent.
“No doubt that we deserved something from the game.
“I think we had the better chances.
“These are the games when I go home of course I am disappointed because I want to win but I’m happy with the team because we did what I was expecting.
“We controlled most of the game. It’s a point, we need to take it.”
Derby came to life in the last 20 minutes after Dean Hammond missed the game’s best chance.
Poyet added: “On another day, maybe last year, probably we would concede a goal and lose the game.
“With the experience on the pitch we controlled it a bit better.
“We are a good team, and we proved it today.”

Talking about injuries a bit of deja vu with Hoskins, Vicente and Buckley all out injured as they were 12 months ago.
The main difference this season is that our defence seems to be alot meaner and when CMS is back no doubt the goals will start to flow again. However when they do I trust that Poyet and Co don't forget the very obvious need for another striker. With or without a fit CMS we still need another goalscorer as this latest result reinforces.
As others have posted in the last few weeks we seem to have difficulty in finding someone suitable to sign even though the search has been going on for about 15 months now.
Does anybody have thoughts as to why ?

Dobbie is as one-footed as barn-door Billy. Admittedly he is more skilful but he didn't seem to have a forward's appetite, today. He wasn't going to let those big, nasty, rough defenders knock him about!

On no less than three occasions, Dobbie refused, despite the always hardworking Bridcutt asking firstly politely, then screaming at him on subsequent occasions, to track back and stop the short corner. On one occasion he appeared to deliberately turn his back and walk away, so not even facing the corner as it was being taken. I don't like the idea of knocking players, or know what GP's tactics were for corners if they played it short, but it didn't look like a commited player doing all he could to ensure it wasn't a reliving of the recent Hull match.
Incidently, I was in that end because I travelled with a diehard Derby fan and he was very pleased with a point.

Reflecting on the transfer window.... interesting that the managers two great signings, Bruno and Tomasz were signed in calm times whereas our four deadline signings if taken as a quartet and not individuals have not set the fan's pulses racing. Still hopeful but will all four step up to the plate?

Dobbie has yet to impress, seemed slow.
Burger van outside the away end should have it explained that big does not equal good. Hot dog composed of cheap ingredients, burgers looked worse. Ran out of bacon for bacon rolls at 2.15!
Wish we had had something inside the ground, maybe that was better.
Proud that we have decent catering at the Amex.

It may be a confidence thing with Dobbie? When you look at our squad and you read up on their pedigrees, or you go online and watch some clips of goals scored, on paper we are top class. We have a collection players that reports say should take us to the top, but I don't know of any match that has been played on paper.
One area of our game does perform to on paper expectations, our defense and keeper, no doubts there, but the midfield isn't producing what on paper they should.
Dobbie, on paper, is a great signing for us and he probabaly will turn out to be so but when we watch him we are expecting more because of what we have read.
The reality of our squad is, yes we are good, 'if,' our opponents don't stifle our plays. Yes we are good, 'if,' key players are not injured. Yes we are good when officials don't see things that none of us see.
If we were to forget about what is written on paper, forget about online video clips and just concentrated on the last ten performances, I think we would all be very happy about where we are right now.

As short term solution but one that might prove or disprove a point and who knows, this guy might be a long term answer.
The MLS season is coming to a close and the New York Red Bulls have a guy called Cooper, check him out. Landon Donovan of Galaxy has proven the worth of short term loan deals from America.

By the way you message boarders, lets give the new boys more of a chance to settle. Get off Dobbie's back or he WILL put the proverbial 2 fingers up. In the home games against Birmingham and Ipswich he was close on a number of occasions to scoring with shots that had more venom and power than any other player in the squad possesses. If he had scored everybody would have been singing his praises. The margin between success and failure can be very small, and forwards thrive on scoring and praise. When things don't go well, then some players "hide" or seem to lose energy (this is often due to lack of confidence or reading the views of the fans). I thought he showed good skills and linked up well with the other players. Warren Aspinall is certain he will get 15 goals for us this season. You can't slate him for not being a striker - because he isn't one, but IMHO he shows the potential to be an excellent "inside forward" to use an old-fashioned title. Will Hoskins is the same, so for God's sake don't get on his back if and when he returns!

Back to the football I think we will be ok and I don't think it will be a repeat of last year. It can be frustrating but we have just got to take it game by game. It does take time to blend the new players in so I wouldn't like to prejudge the season just yet.

Re the pies, we are still using exactly the same recipe, same meat supplier - nothing has changed, we actually use more ale now!
I know our meat supplier is a massive Albion season ticket holder, so I will pass on your comments, the nature of chuck steak is that it naturally has fat/connective tissues that aid cooking, it is impossible to remove all of this - however I will look at our quality checks following your feedback.
Let's hope for a win at the next game folks!
On a lighter note, one of our fans spoke to Delia about Albion pies and how great they are...

We will be reviewing the supply chain this week, to see if we need to make any further changes.
We always read your responses, and if necessary take action where we can. Re the condiments, will pass this on to the ground (can't help on that front).
Our pies, are very important part of BHA - so we take it very seriously.

I would say 8 times out of 10 at the end of the game it will NOT be possible to get a pint of it as they have run out! There are no signs up telling customers this, so when you get to the front of the queue after a 10 minute wait it is extremely frustrating to say the least! Surely, after a whole season and a bit, it is not rocket science to estimate how much is needed to meet demand? Regarding the pies, they have definately gone down hill since last year. I have only had 2 this year and they have been dry and tasteless and as you say, without any condiments and paper! This is the first time I have used this forum to complain about food and drink, however the issues have been raised by others so above is my contribution!
Let's hope this is the start of a new trend and Gus starts to give us direct feedback on the team in the same way Jo has given us direct feedback on the pies....;0) Incidentially Jo as you're obviously reading this whilst the pies are a cut above most grounds I too feel they are not as good as they were at the very start. My first one had crisp pastry, no gristle, came wrapped in paper and had a sachet of salt and pepper in the box. Paper and condiments are long gone and it might be a coincidence but didn't have a single piece of gristle last season but this haven't had one without. Have started voting with my feet last couple of games and getting something from the Coldean takeaway on the way to the ground. Sorry - they were great when the Amex opened.

If sales are proportionately effected and the comments on here might indicate that they have been (especially the steak and ale pies) then the suppliers will do well to take a serious look at the product now compared to the product offered at the beginning of last season.
Unfortunately, I fear, the burger van outside the away end at Derby will continue to serve up third rate offerings.

The pies are still selling like hot cakes (pardon the pun), but that doesn't mean to say we are not taking the comments seriously of course.
