Reds stung by Bees again

Crawley's interest in the Johnstone Paint's Trophy came to an end tonight with a 1-0 defeat at Brentford.

The Bees completed a double over Reds after they followed up their 2-1 League One success at the weekend.

Substitute Sam Saunders converted a Scott Barron centre on 73 minutes to decide an entertaining clash.

Bees had the better of the first half and would have taken the lead inside a minute but for the heroics of Reds keeper Paul Jones.

He superbly plunged to his right to push away a Tony Craig header from a free-kick.

Jones distinguished himself again after ten minutes, coming out and denying Clayton Donaldson when he was clean through.

Crawley's Billy Clarke stung the hands of keeper Richard Lee with an angled drive but Brentford had the better of the opportunities in the first 45 minutes.

The Bees also started the brighter after the break, Jones parrying a Tom Adeyemi shot within a minute.

Reds had enjoyed their best spell, though,when they were hit on the counter-attack for the decisive goal.

Crawley almost snatched an equaliser in added time but Mark Connolly's close range shot after the keeper failed to hold substitute Hope Akpan's shot was cleared off the line by Craig.
