SEVERAL Dorchester residents have raised concerns about the pricing structure of the new centre, compared to others across Somerset and Devon, which are also run by 1610 Leisure Trust.
According to the company’s website, a single adult from the county town can expect to pay £42 per month for premier membership, including access to classes, racquet sports, swimming pools and fitness suite, while the package for other centres with matching facilities is quoted on the site as £35.
Mr Jenkins said there was a price disparity because other centres offer off-peak membership, which allows people to use the facilities during limited hours for a discount price.
He said: “We do not operate peak and off-peak packages, and nationally, that is being withdrawn.
“This means our off-peak members have seen a hike in the price they pay, but the facilities are so much better that I am sure the vast majority will see a big jump in quality.”
