Clubs queue up to sign Albion youngster

Albion have been inundated with requests from lower league clubs to take young striker Ben Dickenson on loan.

Boss Gus Poyet said: "The player everyone has been calling about a lot is Ben Dickenson. It looks like everyone in League One and League Two wants him.

"Unfortunately, Ben has been out for a few weeks with an ankle injury. He is just rejoining training.

"I am sure if we want him to go next Monday he will have plenty of friends, because there are many, many people that have been interested in him. They have been calling constantly."

Dickenson, 19, has been playing for the development squad since Albion bought him from Dorchester for an undisclosed five-figure fee in January.

If he is that in demand and that good then play him in the first team cms could use some help. Hell , rooney was playing for Everton first team by then not a development squad. As the saying goes if he is good enough he is ol enough. He would not have to show much more passion and skill to un seat dobbie from subs bench surely!!!

He must be some prospect if he has been out for a 'few weeks' and only just resuming training - and there are a host of clubs falling over themselves to sign him now.

Good grief, you mean to say there are other teams looking at our youth and development squads...? They actually know where they are...? Who they are...? What they do...? That's more than can be said, apparently, of our own management team... There is no law against putting them on our own bench, even starting them when nothing else is working and, just in case you haven't noticed, it isn't...

Would not be a bad idea to let someone like Dickenson have a runout as he would want to impress and may show more enthusiasm than some. As they say'nothing ventured nothing gained' Would do no harm for Gus just to TRY another 'formula'

Agree with all you guys above who think Dickenson and other DS players should get a fair go,as you rightly say, they would look to impress.UTA

I don't believe it, another Albion player on our books that's injured. A good look at the training and medical regime at the club might be appropriate. If the lad is injured and clubs want him, why let him go? When he is fit put him on the bench as soon as possible.

Good grief, at my age I should know better than to think all is well. Here we are, hardly a kick into our second season in one of the toughest leagues in football, still nicely placed after a bit of a poor run (all teams get them) and still the doom and gloom merchants are
persisting in their game of bash gus. It beggers belief

Because they play in Leagues One and Two? To put it another way, how many of our Championship rivals are looking to sign him?

The numerous clubs chasing Dickenson on loan will be those who were originally hoping to sign him permanently. That is before Albion stepped in to sign him and give him the chance to develop.
I am also of the opinion "if he is good enough, then he is old enough", and believe that giving him an opportunity from the first team bench could be the making of him.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained

really hope this lad is the spark we have been looking for, there would be nothing better than a youngster banging in the goals. Early days but what about another peter ward

You should also know better than to criticise others for having an opinion, whether that's knocking Gus or not.
I don't see gloom and doom, except from the usual WUMs on here, so relax and think of the Albion

I think we can safely say that we're all of the opinion that "if you're good enough, you're old enough". It's plain therefore that Gus doesn't yet think he's good enough, which is why a loan out to a lower level club might be on the cards.

Much as I applaud Gus and all that he has achieved, methinks he is a bit too predictable and conservative - never willing to change HIS system (Plan A) until 15 minutes from the end of a game which is ALWAYS FAR TOO LATE to turn a 0-1 into a 2-1 victory.

The result:- the players like LUA LUA that come on try to perform individual cameos to get the glory when they should be playing a team game. Why not give them 30 mins, and more of a chance to influence the result?

His system of playing is so well known now that other managers have sussed us out, and know how to prevent us scoring. Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Ipswich all came with a similar plan and succeeded.

It would be an interesting experiment to see us play with 3 up front (CMS, Buckley and one of:-Barnes/Dobbie/Ho
skins/Adgestein/Bark
er/Dickenson)
and in midfield:- Orlandi/Vicente?, and one of Bridcutt/Hammond/Cro
fts and Lopez/Lua Lua
with the back 4 remaining as it is.

This system might set the cat among the pidgeons, and get us a 2 goal start before we close up shop!
After all, "ATTACK IS THE BEST FORM OF DEFENCE"

Not sure Gus agrees with the old enough good enough adage, think he more subscribes to the "win nothing with kids" line of thinking. We all watched JFC last season get MOM twice in his first two games. He is good enough but he's still been sent out to be "developed". Our youngest regular starters are Barnes and Bridcutt who are both 23. Not questioning Gus' stance on this - he's the boss. Just an observation. If Brendan Rodgers was in charge at the Amex then JFC would be featuring regularly and not at Oxford. Gus simply has a different approach.

If JFC was good enough to step straight into a championship team would he not have gone somewhere better than league 2 to develop for a season? He will come back a much better player.
When Bridcutt and Barnes were first brought into the team they were what 19/20? Dunk was also brought in to the team (albeit faded recently).
A loan away to get regular football rather than sitting on a bench every week getting 5-10 minutes must be better.
