Albion's game off

Albion's Championship clash away to Blackburn Rovers today has been called off.

Heavy rain overnight which continued throughout the morning left the Ewood Park pitch unplayable and the game was postponed following an inspection.

Many Albion fans had made it to Lancashire when they heard the news.

Thanks very much Blackburn Rovers Football Club, you truly are a tin pot club. How can a club of your supposed stature have a game called of due rain. Why haven't they waterproof pitch covers? There is no excuse for this, we are not playing in league 2 and Ewood Park is a Premiership venue. Completely unacceptable. That's ok, thats £100 train fare done the drain!!

Really!
Well as I said, a further week for our players to heal. Next match is Watford at the Amex, we have a week off they have to play today and the Christmas match, we have no match over Christmas.

Not all bad, is it?

Yes, not a helpful comment when you have travelled for 4 hours, so far the only Championship game called off, safe journey back to all who travelled.

Lucky for the Albion. Will now be played later in season when Albion may be stronger with some new personnel.

I get your point people. Obviously my comment was toward the team and not to those poor people who have travelled.

Strange that Accrington Stanley (oo are dey?) can get a match on but last seasons PL Blackburn Rovers (6 miles away) cannot. For waterlogged pitch, should we read BR out of form I wonder?

Struggling to see it too, maybe no Albion games should be played till Mr Vincente is fit.Take my hat off to the Seagulls away fans, this is the championship and a team like Blackburn take meager provisions,to get the game played.

With Watford at Bristol City on Boxing Day, and us with a fresh squad, anything less than three points next Saturday, would be almost unthinkable!

Ohnotagain.
How much rain fell and how quickly, the team flew for the match so I guess there wasn't a problem at that time.

One would expect a ex-prem team to have decent drainage, maybe this was a flash flood.

Old Scrote of the Amex says...

The rain was forecast, so there's not really an excuse for BR to have not foreseen this.

Ticket from London onwards was £5 booked in advance so you were robbed if you really paid £100. Train to Accrington now, so at least we get to see a match. Big shame though.

That's terrible ! I feel so sorry for all those die-hards who made the journey. Should not happen at this level and If Accrington, 6 miles down the road can play, I cant see how a Prem club can't have got their pitch ready too. As a Christmas gesture they should offer compensation to those who travelled.

Feel sorry for supporters!!

Whilst you can't blame BR completely, more should have been done to warn traveling supporters. It's the match official who postpone the game. Sometimes even the best pitches/stadiums encounter problems (look at what happened to England in Poland...).

Personally I believe the football league and the home club should contribute to reimbursing the supporters or, at the very least, offer free transport to re-scheduled fixture.

Hovite says...

After the best part of 18 years with the benefit of playing in the Prem, they obviously chose to invest in players and not the stadium or more importantly the pitch.

Their problem is much deeper than being relegated to the Championship. Average gates in the low teens cannot support a club let alone move forward.

The club forecasts that predict a £10 million gap between income and operating costs by the end of the season. I presume this is even taking into account their parachute payments.

Just to add;

The club's net debt rose from £21m to £26.3m last season, so add on the £10m they will lose this season their total debt will be £36.3m

Blackburn's wage bill was £49.9m, 86.6 per cent of their annual turnover of £57.6m.

This info should put into perspective on how well we are doing and I would take where we are today any day.

So for all the sad wums and trolls, you really are wasting your time because all is great on the Albion front.

Merry Christmas to all the genuine posters and a Happy New Year.

And I wish all the wums and trolls a miserable shyte lonely Crudmas and bailiffs in the New Year.

I am having a week or so off from here and I suggest the idiots also take advantage of this break and then consider making it a permanent non fixture.

Freeloader it is so obvious what you are up to with your most recent comment, you want to attack Poyet and you are using Hovite as a tool with which to do so.

You create a short list of those that you consider a waste of money, player that you think should not have been signed, you are entitled to your opinion.

Some players show promise and are rewarded with a short term contract but that contract does not mean that will progress. JFC has played with the first team, he has scored for us, he has shown promise, he deserved his contract.
Was Oxford the right place for him to go, maybe not, was he right for Oxford, maybe not, but who knew that at the time of him going there.

Dunk is young and like Lua Lua, he has been carrying personal burdens, have you noticed the change in Lua Lua since that burden has been some what lifted off his shoulders.

Dickerson, how old is he, don't you think you might be writing him off a tad too quickly.

Neither Poyet or Bloom have a crystal ball to look into, they can only act on what they see at the time. If Poyet saw enough in these players to give them a short term contract it was because at that time they deserved it.
You call on Hovite to name other clubs that would want these players, well you name other youngsters that we should have signed, possible prospects for the future.

It is easy to point the finger when it is not you that has to make the decisions.
