Albion compensate away fans with food and drink offer

Albion are offering fans who bought a ticket for today's postponement at Blackburn a free pie and drink at a future game at The Amex.

The Seagulls have been swift to make the gesture to travelling supporters after the match at Ewood Park was not called off until 12.30pm.

Chief executive Paul Barber said: "We really appreciate our fans' great loyalty and fantastic support for the club just three days before Christmas. As a token of our gratitude we would like to offer fans who bought a Blackburn ticket a bite to eat and a drink on us at a future home game.

"We're very sorry that so many fans made such a long journey only to suffer from the late but unavoidable postponement of the game. Unfortunately, we weren’t aware of a pitch inspection until very late in the morning. It took place at 12.30pm - once many of us had already arrived in the north west.

"As soon as we were aware of the referee’s decision to postpone the match we made the announcement to inform our travelling supporters as quickly as possible. We thank everyone for making the huge effort and hope everyone has a safe journey home. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas."

Original tickets for the rearranged trip to Blackburn, on a date to be fixed, will be valid but fans unable to attend can claim a full refund on production of their ticket by visiting either of the club's ticket offices, located at The Amex or in Queens Road, Brighton.

A shame for those travelling but on the plus side we could do with some time to get some of our players fit

I don't want anything from BrIghton, it not their fault. Any recompense should come from Blackburn Rovers, free return coaches for Brighton fans to Ewood is the only acceptable compensation.

With the dire weather forecasts, one expected some games to be cancelled but since Ewood Park is a Premiership Ground, and since some other fixtures in Lancashire are being played you have to ask - why? and at the late hour?

I would hope that Blackburn Rovers offer some recompense to our hardy travelling supporters - of which I am not one today

well mr barber, you are so generous!! how much have fans spent out in travel? surely somebody had looked at the weather forecast, why did nobody consider an 8am inspection, why wait until 12.30 when everybody would already have arrived!! farce comes to mind..

Obviously the ref or Blackburn failed to think about the constant weather, I would have thought the game was in the balance last night? With more rain forecast. Club and ref should have sorted it.
On a positive, time for the big cheque book to be used. Striker urgently needed, only thing is, will Gus go one up front?

Good Post.
Given that Blackburn don't appear to have issued any warning that the game might not be played, the best compensation might be all three points to the Seagulls on the normal 3-0 basis.
The fact that The Albion were not aware of any potential problem as Paul Barber states is not really acceptable.
Whilst I am pleased that our club are trying to compensate our travelling fans I agree with you Alan Skinner that it's Blackburn who should do so.
One's attitude is very different when a club issues a warning that a game might not go ahead but one decides to travel in case it does.

Pie and a drink is a nice gesture. It will make sure the fans turn out at the Amex.

I really sympathise with those fans who travelled today. I didn't. Because of Christmas shopping !

Blackburn fan here (in peace). Feel really bad for anyone who travelled, but i dont think you can blame anyone at Ewood for this either. There was a deluge this morning in Lancashire, an 8am inspection would most likely have been playable. Its the referees call when to do the pitch inspections anyway.

I do think the free pie and drink from your club is actually a bit poor. Whats that worth, about a fiver for travelling the full length of the country twice.

Both clubs should split the cost 50:50 to ensure free coach travel for the rearranged game for those Brighton fans who did travel today.

Really it's a bit mad to embark on a long journey like that at this time of the year right before Christmas. And for a football match that given the weather forecast was always a chance would be postponed.

Just seen this myself Far gull. It's in The Star too.
Like you have mentioned, 2 million seems a bit low given Gp's recent statements about not selling our best players on the cheap.
I personally would take the all edged 2 if offered but I'd want Billy Sharp and Hammond as part of the deal as well.
