Gus Poyet is relieved his Albion side will not be facing Demba Ba in the FA Cup at The Amex on Saturday.

The Newcastle striker is joining Chelsea for £7 million after reportedly agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal.

Poyet told The Argus: "I am very glad and if he (Alan Pardew) wants to leave Cisse and company out I will be very happy! Maybe the fans want to see the best players at The Amex but he (Ba) is an outstanding player and he can score from anywhere."

Newcastle's fortunes have nosedived since Pardew was awarded an eight-year contract.

Poyet said: "That's just a bad coincidence that has gone against him. Football is terrible like that. When you think you are happy and relaxed, because you can plan for the future, then something goes against you and it's scary.

"He has got a great group of players and I am sure he is going to have a great second part of the Premier League."
