Albion kicked off Sussex’s big FA Cup afternoon in style by knocking out Newcastle at The Amex.

And they did it in some comfort in the end.

Andrea Orlandi and Will Hoskins scored for the Seagulls in a 2-0 win over a lack-lustre Toon side who had skipper Shola Ameobi sent-off between the two goals.

Orlandi showed superb technique to turn home Wayne Bridge’s low cross on 33 minutes with his back to goal after a fine diagonal pass by Gordon Greer had got Albion in behind the defence.

The Championship side deserved that lead after making a terrific start.

Ameobi was booked for fouls in the 47tth minute, on Dicker, and then 17 minutes later, on David.

Toon responded well to going down to ten men and Liam Bridcutt made a superb block to divert a goalbound volley by lively sub Sylvain Marveaux over the bar.

Albion, though, finished the game strongly and David’s precise through ball sent sub Hoskins through to slot past Steve Elliot in the 87th minute.
