Hoskins will fight for his Albion future

The Argus: Will Hoskins, scoring against Newcastle Will Hoskins, scoring against Newcastle

Will Hoskins has vowed to fight for his Albion career after clinching the FA Cup victory over Newcastle.

The substitute slotted home David's pass three minutes from time to end a 16-month goal drought for the Seagulls.

It was his first goal for the club since scoring at Cardiff at the start of last season and his second in 19 appearances since signing from Bristol Rovers two summers ago.

Hoskins, plagued by injury problems including a broken foot earlier this season, went on loan to Sheffield United for three months during the 2012 January transfer window.

The 26-year-old, out-of-contract in June, told The Argus: "After breaking my foot I think everyone might have said my days are numbered but I kept my head down, kept going and kept strong. I'm not a quitter.

"I am driven and I want to succeed. I want to do it for my family, I want to do it for myself and I want to do it for this club as well, given the chance.

"I've been in the team or on the bench since coming back from the foot injury sooner than expected.

"I've worked hard, had a few starts and a few chances that have eaten away at me a little bit that I should have converted, so to score is a massive positive."

He's got some talent, his goal was well taken and his relief was clearly palpable. Is he a 15-20 goals a season man, not sure.

Scored 20+ for Bristol Rovers in Div one and they got relegated the same year. Appreciate it was in the div below The Championship but he is technically better and a more natural all round footballer than our Mr CMS imho!

I always said the same,if he could do so well for a team going down,no real quality around him ,no support, how well given a chance can he do for us.
After his all round performance for us on Saturday, given that he was only on the pitch for 20 mins,i thought he played superbly ,at one point coming out of a group of 3 NUFC player s with the ball,he surely must be given more of a chance, and frankly im more than a little concerned that he is out of contract in the summer!. Gus sign him up,put any baggage between you aside and let him show you how good he can be for our great club. UTA

Yes Tug, that was an incredible bit of skill.
At the time the manager signed Hosko. he apparently stated that Hosko was very gifted technically, able to play up front on his own, could play on the shoulder or wide etc etc etc. Well, that has all been displayed in his brief appearances.

Some good positive comments about this guy and rightly so.
Since his return from the latest injury he has looked a man on a mission, he may not have scored until Saturday but in every cameo appearance he has made, he has had an opportunity to score.
I'm convinced his lack of a goal until now is purely rustiness and I wouldn't mind betting that given a run of games, we will see what we hoped we had signed. As someone else mentions.. For Will to score the same amount of goals for Bristol Rovers in the season they were relegated is some feat.
Stick with us Will and BHAFC, please stick with this guy, he WILL be a gem.

But that is run by the same org as The Argus. Happy days. Stay with us Hoskins and enjoy the ride.

Hoskins can make a real difference for us in the second half of the season. Gus seems to be encouraging him again so hopefully he'll be in or around our starting eleven until the end of the season and I reckon he'll be worth between 10-15 goals. That could be the difference between a play-off place and mid-table mediocrity.

Will Hoskins produced an excellent finish on Saturday that rubber-stamped our win over Newcastle, but let's net get too carried away. To anoint him the next 'Wardy' on the strength of one goal when he nutmegged the Toon keeper is completely over-the-top. He has yet to prove that he can play the lone striker role that Gus so often employs CMS in and he's not show the same commitment to the cause so far either (some of that through injuries so no fault of his own). I was delighted when we signed him from Bristol Rovers. I too would like to see him given more of a chance by Gus, but - in my book at least - the jury is still very much out on whether he can be a consistent contributor at Championship level.

I keep banging on about the fact he is the missing link and will do the business for us if he is allowed to start in a run of games.

He is more adaptable than CMS but equally would play well with him as a strike force.

If we sign the Spanish lad though he might as well pack his bags and that will be another player we did not give a good enough chance to to prove his ability which would be a real shame!! His only other hope is to change his name by deed poll to "Ashley Barnes"

Will - you're well liked by the fans - that's a good start. Goals will do the talking. We all agree you need more time/ full matches

Not sure why we'd ever play a lone striker role? So often we should be more bullish and bold - timidity doesn't quite get us there - it took Andy Murray 5+ years to work that out!!

"The new Wardy"? Ridiculous at this stage

Anyone know what Hammond was booked for on Saturday? My memory was that it was he that was fouled - but I reckon I must have missed something

Cheers

Tony Towner sums it up - there is such a huge amount of goodwill for this Will (well and the other one too!). I don't think I've ever known a player to be held so highly before he's actually achieved on the pitch, but like the rest of you, I was excited when we signed him and have always hoped he' get fit, overcome internal issues and start scoring.

I really hope that he recognises the strength of feeling supporters have for him and reciprocates this by signing on again. To see him turn things around on the pitch and then leave on a free would be so frustrating.

Still waiting to get an EU passport courtesy of Spain, until he gets it nothing doing apparently Alfie T.
There was a good report on this site quoting one of the Almeria execs (General Manager I think) towards the end of last week. It didn't sound a 'done deal' but subject to the passport issue we seem to be top of Ulloa's potential list of destinations.
I just hope we don't hang around waiting for this situation to be resolved since we might miss out on other potential strikers.
Returning to this thread I am glad to hear of Hosko's desire to prove himself and remain at BHA beyond this summer. I think he could be a very useful player for us. He is beginning to come into some form, he seems both good technically and intelligent which is what we want up front.
My only concern is we rarely see CMS and Hosko together which is a pity since without having playing time together it is difficult for them to build an understanding.
Looking forward to Saturday.

ers,Shef U.Bone in foot 5 mths lol.Even club at first said between 5 or 6 weeks. How did that turn into 5mths ha.
The more someone claims to be in the know, the less they generally are.

And do you have any other insults than 'mug' (other than the weird use of 'vile' you reserve for players who, despite not being Messi, are far more talented than any of us)? Why do you even bother with this forum, if we're all so rubbish and far less intelligent than you? I am not saying you have any less right to comment than any of us, but really if all you have is negative bile and invective that you feel the constant need to unleash, couldn't you find a more productive outlet for it? I'm starting to feel sorry for you - I must be a mug!

PS: I have problems with stuck keys on my keyboard, but I am somehow able to edit my messages before clicking send... weird!

Really how much more evidence do you need then for your very slow brain to kick in then. You have the Watford fans on here saying the same only a few weeks ago. They also pointed out the trouble the manager had with him at the time.He went to Shef U & was out with injury within a few weeks.Did you here about them smashing the door down to sign him full time "NO".On top of that the same thing at Forest within weeks, and also at Rovers. But lets hope your right you seem to know it all.People like you are always happy spending other people money.I think Poyet knows a lot more about it than you thank God.

Yeah, and the Watford fans were also on here saying we'd get about 3 good games per season out of Buckley when we bought him. Were they right then?

Hold on, you're saying Poyet knows a lot about football, yet are also saying he got it wrong when he bought Hoskins? Do you even know which side of the argument you are on now? You seem to be the ONLY person on here who dislikes Will Hoskins - did he (and all the other players whose very existence you despise) sleep with your missus or something?

Very pleased for Will. His reaction after scoring shows that he really wants to do well for us (or perhaps for another team, if he can't get a regular first team place with us). Time will tell if he can replicate his previous goal scoring feats with us. I think that he can. Of course that very much depends upon Gus playing him. I hope he does. I agree that it is too early to call him the new Wardy! I also agree with others that Dicker's return to the team has most likely contributed to our upturn in form. I was very depressed after the Watford game, but am now very positive about the future this season - It's amazing how feelings can change so quickly!

So, this is a bloke who played for the Albion in the 70s but has since died. Should narrow it down a bit, but not right now - this application for Jobseeker's Allowance won't fill itself.

I may post a lot of comments, I will put my hands up to that but I don't stoop to calling people vile, or attack anyone for their spelling errors.

I may have opinions on certain players, their value to the squad or not, as the case might be, but I won't insult them.

I prefer to direct my thoughts toward the team and their progress and not waste them on futile written garbage.

Having read all the comments on this thread I would advise all those that think I submit too many comments to keep their thoughts to themselves. Any further requests for me to reduce the number of my comments will result in a doubling of my efforts.

Freeloader, you need to stop winding people up, you enjoy it but you are destroying this forum.
The rest of you, well you just need to think about how you are feeding Freeloaders fun.

This is truly pathetic...! If I were to actually type what I think of some of the posts I am sure you would all be clicking on the REPORT THIS POST button. At least I hope you would, that is what it is there for.

In another life I was expedited for actually saying something about a 'mucking fuddle' which, in hindsight, was relatively mild. Oh well, I shall try to get in early on the next thread, before it deteriorates in to the usual mire...
