Ulloa completes Albion move

Leonardo Ulloa has agreed terms with Albion Leonardo Ulloa has agreed terms with Albion

Albion have signed Argentinian striker Leonardo Ulloa on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The 26-year-old completed his move from Almeria this evening and will be available to play at Birmingham City on Saturday if he receives international clearance in time.

His arrival completes a long search by Albion boss Gus Poyet for a goalgetting centre forward with physical presence.

The fee has not been disclosed but is believed to be about £2 million.

Alloa was under contract at Almeria until the summer of 2015 having agreed improved terms last summer.

Poyet said: “Leo is that striker we have been looking to add for some time. He will complement our existing strikers, enjoy playing with our wingers and creative players.

"He’s a typical No.9 box player. He’s good in the air, he will hold the ball up and he has good movement around the box when the ball is wide.

"He will suit the way we play, fit in well to our style and identity and I am sure he will make us a stronger team.”

Ulloa said his farewells at Almeria yesterday morning.

He scored 28 goals for the second-tier club last season but they were unable to get back into the top flight.

The former San Lorenzo star was not a first team regular this term but remains highly rated in Spanish football, where he has seven top-tier goals to his name.

Fantastic news and 4.5 year contract too. GP must be ultra positive about the effect this guy is going to have on our game.
Good to be an Albion fan these days, I very much look forward to seeing our newest addition play.

It's satisfying to know that the team is set up in a style, which should make it easy for him to fit in.

We are ready for him and he is ready for us. Good job Gus.

I cannot imagine he will be match fit. Subs bench at best for Saturday (if the game is played which I would doubt given the dire weather warning for that neck of the woods!!)

Just a bit weird he wasn't playing this season if he's that good!! Maybe it was personal stuff. They knew he was going etc.

Anyway look forward to seeing the lad. Four and a half years blimey quite a contract for him!!

If not unexpected this is very good news.
For the first time, for a long time we really have some competition for the strikers role on the team sheet, or do we?

The role he is going to play is missing from our squad, hence we bought him. I would like to see Gus bring in another just Like Leonardo, competition and cover if needed. The lad is a one off in our squad and as such he can't be replaced.
If Leonardo is the final piece to the puzzle needed for a promotion run we had better hope he does not get injured.

Well done to Gus and the board, now go find another one, you have two weeks left in the window.

I think this is a misquote - it should have been spelt "compliment" - I'd not read too much in to it - I think it just means he'll say nice things to Craig, Ashley and Will to make them feel good! :-)

Sounds just what the doctor ordered, so Happy Days!! I am frankly astonished at the length of the contract he plays under, so Gus and Tony Bloom must really see some serious potential in this guy. If he scores the sort of goals our current strikers have missed in previous games, top 6 becomes a real possibility! UTA!

It's getting increasingly difficult for GP to pick a starting 11 as new arrivals sign up and injured players return to fitness.
It's a problem I would personally want though given the alternative of having a depleted squad.
I await with anticipation to see the starting 11 when all are fit.
I'd love to see the following line up but given Gp's stance to date I can't see it. I can dream though.

I would go 4-2-3-1 also, Hammond is a bit slow for me so I would give Crofts a few more games and see how Vincente goes.

Derby fan ram. He disappeared after he got beat on Saturday.

Anyway I can’t think of any signings Gus has got wrong and although Sussexram40 hasn’t seen him play and cannot judge him, the club has, over the past year, and that’s good enough for me.

30 minutes past midnight as I write in the UK, we have our new striker and we have all our gems, a very good day for Brighton.

15 days of the window left, it's about time we heard of another possible signing.
I don't think, and I don't want to think that we are done just yet. A new center back must be on the cards and I still say we need another striker.

But who goes - You decide!

Possible Value?
CMS ? £3.5 - 4m
Bridcutt ? £6m+
Dobbie ? £1m
Hoskins ? £1m
Crofts ? £0.3m
Brezovan ? £0.1m

Obviously, Bridcutt MUST stay IMHO, but would Gus let him go for £6m+?
I think that both Hoskins and Dobbie could profit from Ulloa's presence, as could CMS. So will Gus experiment before making a decision on who should stay and who shold go?

With the best part of the season to come now, ie the business end, the whole squad is required for the hoped for push to the playoffs. As such, not the time to weaken what we have. The club is so close now imo . Watched Arsenal game. Doubt they'll have the bottle to turn up at the Amex. Mind you, that Wilshere can play a bit.UTA
