Wenger praises Albion

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger praised Albion performance after Arsenal’s FA Cup victory at The Amex.

The Gunners were twice pegged back by the Seagulls before substitute Theo Walcott hit a late winner to give them a 3-2 success.

Wenger said: “Brighton are a good team. They made it very difficult for us.

“We had a little bit of a slow start, they were sharper than us in the first half. In the second half we were much more in the game and created chances.

“They play a game which is very positive, technical game. They had a great spirit today, especially on the right flank they gave us many problems.

“In the end we had that little bit of extra quality that got us through.”

Nice to hear this from Wenger, who I have admired for a long time as a Manager, and who really appreciate the technical skills of football.
Never liked the Gooners though. Funny isn't it, how you take against some teams. Don't like Chealski either.

Very well summed up Arsene

Yes, it was that little bit of extra quality that got the result but only marginal.

I thought that was the best game of the whole round in terms of entertainment and attractive football.

Hope the injuries are not too bad but once again it looks like hamstrings.
Am I alone in thinking we seem to have a serial problem with this?

Anyway I was proud of the boys yesterday and hope they can build on this in the weeks to come.
Very impressed with Ulloa once he got going and should live up to expectations once he finds his feet.

Hope you all had a great day out, atmosphere sounded amazing.

To put yesterday's game to bed so I can move on.

What a terrific cup tie... End to end stuff and 2 great footballing teams fully committed to winning a football match. A fantastic advert for British football and indeed what the FA cup is all about.
I appreciate Mr Wengers comments, he is right to compliment us and coming from him, the comment carries a little prestige and a whole heap of pride. It was also nice to hear the Itv commentator on the highlights show saying that for the neutral, this was the tie of the round.
So there we were slugging it out with one of Europes finest teams and yet we held our own and arguably deserved a replay.
My hat is off to Giroud, he scored not 1 but 2 wonder goals and you have to ask if he will score any better than the 2 he put past us in his career. His 1st was a strike of absolute quality and is one not likely to replicated by him or indeed many other strikers again this season. The 2nd... Well, what can you say about the touch to bring the ball down as it arrived from over his shoulder? Not a lot... It was a moment of sheer class and as mentioned probably won't be replicated in a long time.
So 2 wonder strikes and a very lucky deflected goal to win a match against us. Would I have taken this before kick off? "Yes" do I feel a little disappointed it happened to us "yes".
Congratulations to Arsenal though, I wish them well as they progress through the rounds.
In my mind we have now had our special day for the season and its now time to get back to the grind and for the guys to knuckle down in preparation for our next Championship match. They have earnt their plaudits and a little more adoration from us fans but lets now put this to bed and concentrate on playing well enough for the remainder of the season so we can play the likes of Arsenal every week.
A quick thought goes out to both Buckley and Greer. I hope they make a speedy recovery. They are key to us pushing on for the play offs.

Well done again lads, you did us proud.

Amaizing game of football, much improved from Liverpool last year, just 2 or 3 addtional quality playes to add in the right positions and i would be confident of staying up when we get promoted. Ulloa, what a signing, holds the ball up- well, he is strong, good on the ball and knows where to be, he is going to be a legend, we need that dutch defender, cant wait ti the next game, bring it on!

Twas a great show and although a draw and a trip to the Emirates may have been what many wanted in the end, I am glad that we do not have to fit in a replay to our schedule. If we had beaten them yesterday, then great, we could enjoy the next round, but a replay, no way would that be good for us.

I don’t buy the Casper being at fault and I understand why he had to be played, we may need him if Kuz get’s injured and for all intents and purposes he did a good job. Barnes also displayed what Gus is coaching him to do and the why his is chosen for this versatile role.

Quite agree SMF, spot on review. You can understand why they let Van P go with Giroud in the background. Still it shows we can compete at Prem league level and our performance yesterday would have been good enough to beat many other Prem sides.
Also supports Gus's view of the need of 2 central defenders. Let's hope we can bridge that gap in the league and replace either Mboro, CP or Hull in that top 6.

Good post SMF20.
I really enjoyed the game (other than the result) and thought there was a great atmosphere created by both sets of supporters which the players responded to.
Two things swung the tie Arsenal's way. The first being the injuries to Buckley and Greer, especially GG's which not only unbalanced the defence but also meant that Hammond played deeper thereby lessening our midfield presence.
The second was of course the introduction of Wiltshire who took control of midfield and Walton
I thought the Albion played well although my only slightly negative comment I have to say is that I wasn't convinced by Ankergren. On another day he might have 'got more on' the punch that led to Walcott's deflected winning goal.
Particulary impressed by Barnes (well taken goal and great cross for Ulloa's) and Hammond both of whom played better than I have seen recently. Not for the first time Bridcutt showed his class. Ulloa had some nice touches and looked useful - even his height when defending helped.
Worried by the injuries and particulary by Greer's since we now (in the short term) have a CB crisis. Lets hope Poyet gets a CB in before the Window closes.
Yesterday showed we are going in the right direction. UTA.

A real pity you missed the game MBTS since it was a cracking cup tie and the best of those played yesterday in the cup.
While we had our starting 11 on the pitch we were more than a match with Arsenal's 'one & a half' team. Any bottom half premiership team would have been hard pressed against us.
The most pleasing thing was the Albion twice coming back to equalise.

In my opinion that was the best game at the Amex so far, in terms of quality from both sides. When you consider Arsenal fielded 9 internationals who are first choice for their respective countries, we coped brilliantly. We really should be proud of the boys and the way they dug in. I am in two minds about the replay, as on one hand I would have loved a trip to the Emirates, but on the other I am glad we don't have that extra game. Lets hope the lads build on that performance and crush Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Dijk has been valued at around 5 million by his club, Brighton and Sunderland both want to sign him but neither think that the price is realistic. There is also the small matter of his club not wanting him to go right now. If we really want him, firstly we will have to make a offer that his club will accept and secondly, it will have to be a price that Sunderland won't pay.

Bridcutt has to be drawing admiring glances from others and yesterday, well yesterday he showed a world wide audience that he is quality. I am very worried about a late bid coming in for the lad.

Barnes added to his price tag yesterday, I had him down as man of the match for Brighton.

Ulloa took just 20 mintues or so to get into the game but once he did he showed why Gus has been wanting him for so long. More to come from him.

David gets better with every game he plays, I hope we give him a new contract very soon.

Hammond stepped up yesterday so much so that I think Crofts is going to have to rely on squad rotation to get on the team sheet to start matches.

Pity we did not do it but we held our own and the early substitutions probably were the difference.

I can see Dean Hammond staying ( quite happy with that) Poor old El Abd seems to get stuck in and sometimes pays things just don't drop for him

Good to see Arsene being positive and complimentary ( not a fan of The Gunners either though)

Now let us build on this and get into the top 2 for the end of the season

We finally got to the front : No Harveys, No Food, ... the group we were in walked out, and round to the East Stand Reception. Queued for 20 minutes, ... it was like the Monty Python Cheese Shop Sketch when we go served... " No Harveys, No other Ales, No Pies, No Crisps, No red wine, DREGS of White wine, "....

I was furious! We are talking 30 minutes to an hour after the game!! It was lager or nothing..... and I dont want lager unless its hot and sunny!

How hard can it be!?
Seriously, what can we do about this?
WSL ran out of pies too at half time with 100+ people still cueing who were all going to miss the beginning of the second half. They know exactly how many pints, pies, packets of crisps etc. they have sold at every game since we got our fantastic stadium, how come everyone in the queues can work it out but the people who's job it is can't? Why have they not poured 50+ pints 10 mins before half time is a total mystery to me, it's a joke, but no longer funny. Rant over, game was fantastic apart from score, very pleased for ulloa to score on his debut.

I think a chorus of " you don't know what you're doing" might be in order if no improvement at the next match, perhaps the argus could run a story so we can all comment in the hope the right person reads the thread.?

Agree with all this SMF20, except when you say "In my mind we have now had our special day for the season..." Surely that will come in May, but I know what you mean

My sentiments exactly.

One thing to add, I heard on the way down to the game on Saturday that Wenger twice wrote personal letters of support for our stadium application (at different stages). What a top man! Thank you, Arsene.
