Craig Mackail-Smith has not given up on Albion snatching automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The striker believes the Seagulls can keep alive their hopes of a top two finish in the Championship by beating Blackburn tonight.
Mackail-Smith, a play-off winner with Peterborough, said: “It’s a great way to be promoted but I still think we have got an outside chance of getting second place.
“If we win tonight it could be only five points between us and second place and in this division at this moment in time that is not a lot.
“Our focus has got to be on winning tonight and then just keep on closing the gap. Hopefully by the end of the season we have done enough to sneak in automatically.”
