STUDENTS at St Edmund’s School are putting on a hair-raising show this week with their production of Hairspray.
The musical is set in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1960s where plump teenager Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance programme.
When she wins a role on the show she becomes a celebrity overnight and launches a campaign for racial integration on the show.
Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustice in American society in the 1960s and features some great songs in a 1960s dance style and downtown rhythm and blues.
The students in Laverstock are performing the show until Saturday. Call the school on 01722 328565 for more details.
