These are the behind-the-scenes moments when Jake Forster-Caskey and his England colleagues were told they had done something very special.

The Albion midfielder helped the under-21s win 2-1 in Croatia yesterday to secure their place at the Euro finals next summer.

A tired looking Forster-Caskey and colleagues swap congratulatory handshakes as they return to their changing room on Vinkovci.

Boss Gareth Southgate, the former England centre-back, then tells them: “I’ve not played in England teams that could keep a ball like that.

“It might be because the centre-back couldn’t use it!

“But it’s credit to you. You can change people’s opinions of what we are about and what we are capable of doing.”

Forster-Caskey played in both legs of the play-off having previously enjoyed only one start in the under-21s.

He earned particularly high praise for his part in the 2-1 win at Molineux in the first leg on Friday.
