Albion boss Sami Hyypia has received no assurances about his future – and he does not want any.

He his happy with silent support from the Boardroom as he tries to turn the Seagulls’ fortunes around.

Hyypia has steered Albion through to the last 16 of the Capital One Cup at Spurs on Wednesday but they are struggling near the bottom of the Championship after nine games without a win.

Hyypia revealed to The Argus: “Nobody has said anything. We haven’t talked about this situation a lot. I think it’s an unnecessary conversation. I haven’t noticed or heard anything different.

“If they put pressure on me, say ‘It’s not good and we have to win the next game or otherwise you can walk’ I would say it straight away here but it’s not the case.”

Hyypia, asked if he has received any assurances, added: “I don’t need that. As long as I am in this position I know I have the backing of everyone in the club and then when that days comes and they say ‘Thanks a lot, that’s enough’, then I know the backing is not there.

“But until that day comes I know nobody has to say to me that I have the backing, because I know it’s there.”

Albion are likely to take stock of their situation during the next international break. They have three home matches out of the next four in the league before then, beginning with Rotherham’s visit to the Amex today, for Hyypia to change an unfortunate pattern of draws and narrow defeats.

He said: “It’s not a nice feeling, not a nice situation. I’ve said all the time that I’m very ambitious and I want to be successful and this is not the way to be successful.

“It has been a hard period. I’ve thought a lot about how we can turn this around. It is just the small details that are lacking at the moment. I don’t believe in luck but we haven’t had any in any game.

“It is frustrating when you feel you have done enough to win and it doesn’t happen but we have to keep the faith in what we are doing.”

Albion dropped to 21st in the table last night after Fulham beat Charlton 3-0 at Craven Cottage.

Scott Parker and Hugo Rodallega, with his fourth goal of the season, put the Cottagers 2-0 up inside 12 minutes and Rodallega added an 89th-minute third.
