Albion bowed out of the Capital One Cup tonight.
But they departed with heads held high after a 2-0 defeat at Spurs.
Men of the moment Erik Lamela and Harry Kane scored second-half goals to break the Seagulls' resistance.
Their strikes on 54 and 74 minutes secured a win which was fair reward for the hosts.
But Albion will take heart from a lot of their defensive work.
In particular, Lewis Dunk and Aaron Hughes caught the eye.
And England under-20s goalkeeper Christian Walton had a night to savour after being thrown in for his debut in place of injured David Stockdale.
Sub Craig Mackail-Smith inspired a late flurry by the Seagulls, who were given magnificent backing by more than 4,000 fans.
The away contingent, which included ex-Albion striker Leo Ulloa applauded their team off at the end.
