Albion chairman Tony Bloom has given his unequivocal backing to manager Sami Hyypia.

Bloom has revealed to The Argus he expects the Finn to be at the club “for many years to come”.

Albion have struggled since appointing Hyypia on a three-year contract in June.

They have entered the international break in 21st place, a point above the Championship relegation zone, after one win in 13 games.

Bloom is undeterred by the Seagulls’ poor start and insists Hyypia is the right man for the job.

He says in an in-depth interview inside today’s Argus: “I look beyond results. I’ve seen every game this season, I look at the performances, and we’ve had some performances not so good, we’ve had some decent performances and we’ve had some excellent performances.

“We certainly, on average, should have more points on the board but that happens sometimes. We’ve had a few injuries. Obviously, all clubs have injuries but we’ve had a few key long-term injuries which hasn’t been helpful as well, but we will fight through.

“I have every faith with Sami and Nathan’s (Jones) coaching team and the players that we will come through and it will make us stronger.

“I have every faith Sami will come through. He is a very calm manager. I look at the bigger picture. I look at everything and I really believe, as I did in June when I hired him, that Sami’s the right man and I fully expect Sami to be here for many years to come.”
