Albion have asked England to keep an eye on Jake Forster-Caskey’s international workload.

But the Seagulls midfielder is confident he will return to his club fresh and ready for Championship action after under-21s duty.

Forster-Caskey played the full 90 minutes as Gareth Southgate’s men ended Portugal under-21s’ 14-game unbeaten run on Thursday.

They follow that 3-1 friendly win at Turf Moor with a game against France in Brest on Monday.

Forster-Caskey has been almost ever-present for the Seagulls this season and the club have liaised with England about his workload during the latest international double-header.

Those considerations could affect the part he plays in France.

Forster-Caskey told The Argus before joining up with the national team: “The physios here and the doctors and other staff have spoken to England already and told them how many games I’ve played.

“I think I will be doing slightly less than maybe some of the others who haven’t played quite as many games.

“Hopefully they will look after me and it will be better for Brighton as well.”

Forster-Caskey is relishing the chance to play for his country but keen that it will not affect his appearances for Albion.

Meanwhile young Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton is in line for another cap when England under-20s play Portugal in Coimbra on Monday (2.30pm).

Walton watched the 2-2 draw with Canada on Wednesday from the bench as Exeter City’s Christy Pym played the full game.

Pym has since returned to his club and fellow keeper Joe Wildsmith, of Sheffield Wednesday, has withdrawn from the squad with an ankle injury.

Manchester City keeper Angus Gunn was due to join up with the squad ahead of their departure for Portugal today having been part of the under-19s squad which faced Italy at Rotherham last night.
