Adam Chicksen plans to prove he is good enough to break into Albion’s first team – by starring out on loan.

The Seagulls left-back is expected to make his Gillingham debut today after signing for a month.

He is likely to start the League One six-pointer at home to Leyton Orient, the club he served on loan while he was with MK Dons.

Chicksen has struggled for a Championship place at the Amex in competition with first Stephen Ward, then Joe Bennett.

But he has performed well in the Capital One Cup and is determined to show he is worth a league place.

Chicksen told Gillingham fans: “I need to prove I should be in the Brighton team and that’s what I want to do.

“You are going to get the best out of me.”

Former Albion boss Peter Taylor, now in charge at Gillingham, moved for Chicksen after Joe Martin was sent off in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win at Crawley on Tuesday, incurring a three-game ban in the process.

The loan expires after the Gills visit Doncaster on December 13.

Chicksen, 23, will link up with former Albion attacker Brennan Dickenson down the left.

He added: “We’ve both got pace and hopefully we can build a partnership.”
