Albion star Jake Forster-Caskey has told England how his club’s passing style has set him up perfectly for international action.

The midfielder is with the under-21s preparing for their friendly against France in Brest tomorrow night.

He played the full 180 minutes of the Euro play-off against Croatia recently and also went the distance in Thursday’s 3-1 win over Portugal in a friendly.

Forster-Caskey reckons England have changed style under current boss Gareth Southgate.

And it matches what he was brought up on at his club.

In an interview with the FA, he said: “It has changed a little bit with England, we play a lot more football now. The possession is a lot higher and we’re keeping the ball a lot more.

“So, for me, it’s better because at my club we do that quite a lot and it’s easier to fit in when the style is similar.”

Southgate is keen for England to test themselves against strong sides ahead of the Euro finals next summer.

Portugal made a few changes to the team which had gone 14 games unbeaten when they played at Turf Moor on Thursday.

But it was still a good test – and Forster-Caskey reckons France will offer the same.

He added: “I saw them play in Toulon (last May) and they look like a strong team.

“They’re quite physical and they’ll be good on the ball as well so it’s going to be quite a tough test.

“But there’s a good spirit and everyone’s training very well so I think it will be a good game.”

England travelled from their St George's Park base today. Forster-Caskey could play reduced minutes against the French in view of his workload already this season.
