Pressure mounted on under-fire Albion manager Sami Hyypia tonight as his side lost at home.

The Seagulls were sunk by an expertly taken 14th-minute strike from Lee Gregory as they went down 1-0 to fellow strugglers Millwall.

Hyypia had to shrug off chants and songs calling for him to step down – or be sacked – as a miserable night played out at the Amex.

The Seagulls boss was non-committal about his future at the end of the game.

But, if this does turn out to be his last match in charge, his tenure will have ended with a performance similar to several in recent months.

Albion conceded first and, despite a lot of effort, lacked the quality to get the win they craved.

Gregory finished calmly amid chaotic defending – and attacking - as the ball bounced around the penalty area.

That was the cue for the first boos of the night.

But there were more to follow. And they got louder as the evening wore on.

Albion had chances to savage something.

Joao Teixeira, at the heart of much of his side’s more promising work, saw a shot fingertipped behind by David Forde.

Then, in the second half, Solly March whisked a shot wide from a great position after Adam Chicksen produced easily the best cross of his comeback performance after a loan stint at Gillingham.

Darren Bent only had one sniff of goal, when he headed wide from an excellent Bruno cross.

But generally the hosts' attacking work was poor.

They ended the night putting high balls on to the head of man mountain centre-back Danny Shittu as Millwall clung to three precious points.
