Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer says there has been no firm approach for striker Leon Best.

Albion have been speculatively linked with the out-of-favour Best. He was bought for Newcastle by Seagulls boss Chris Hughton and is back at Ewood Park after a loan spell at Derby County was cut short.

Bowyer said: "I've heard speculation about clubs wanting to take him on loan but there's been nothing concrete in that. He's back in and training with us and we'll have to wait and see if that changes."

Best, 28, joined Newcastle in 2010 when Hughton was manager for £1.5 million from Coventry.

He failed to score in 13 outings as the North-East giants won the Championship and never played for Hughton in the Premier League in 2010-11 after he was sidelined by a knee injury.

Best, who went on to score six goals in 12 appearances for the Toon in the second half of the 2010-11 campaign, has 18 months left on his contract at Blackburn.

Rovers' chances of removing him from the wage bill permanently are hampered by his substantial salary.
