A STUDENT clocked during 100mph on the M8 narrowly escaped losing his licence after a sheriff was told he'd been trying to avoid getting into trouble with his mum.
Nicholas Todd, 18, was running late after being told to pick up his kid brother from school.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard police stopped him near Bishopton in his Volkswagen Golf, making him even later.
Todd of Kenmure Road, Greenock, who is studying hotel management at Strathclyde University, admitted driving carelessly on June 7 last year.
An agent explained that, as a young driver, if his licence was endorsed with six penalty points he'd be banned from driving.
That would spell disaster as Todd's earnings from working as a delivery driver paid for his studies.
The episode had "caused some consternation within the family," the court heard and Todd was unlikely to be caught again.
Sheriff Susan Sinclair described his speed as "ridiculous" but said he seemed to have learned his lesson. She gave him five points so he could work to pay his £200 fine.
