BRAHIM HEMDANI today conceded that Rangers didn't deserve to be in the draw for the last eight of the Uefa Cup in Glasgow tomorrow.

The gutted French midfielder spoke honestly about the performance of Walter Smith's side after they lost 1-0 to Osasuna in Pamplona last night to crash out 2-1 on aggregate.

Rangers never looked like getting past the Spaniards, who sealed the tie 20 minutes from the end through Cameroon striker Pierre Webo.

The La Liga side were a step up in class from opposition Rangers had faced in the earlier rounds, and they just couldn't cope.

To make matter worse, the game was marred by trouble off the park and Rangers again find themselves in the middle of a Uefa inquiry.

"I have to be honest, we did not deserve to go through and the best team over the two legs is in the next round," said Hemdani.

"I don't think you can just blame what happened at Ibrox. We were not good enough last night, either.

"Osasuna were a good side, but we never got anywhere near how well we can play, and that is the biggest disappointment in such a massive match.

"What went wrong? We just failed, we were not good enough. I don't think you can make any case for us really."

Rangers' game-plan had been to keep things tight in the Reyno de Navarra Stadium before pushing for the goal they needed to stay alive.

But they never created enough chances over the night and Hemdani said: "We never really got in behind them and I don't think we applied enough pressure.

"We knew it would be hard in Spain but I still think we could have played better.

"It's a massive disappointment to go out. But we have to get on with it and make sure we come back strongly in the SPL."

Striker Dado Prso felt that Rangers were left dead and buried after their first-leg 1-1 draw at Ibrox last week.

The Croatian - who may well have been playing in his last European tie as he gets set to retire in the summer - always feared that no-show last week had left them up against it.

Prso said: "We killed ourselves at Ibrox with the 1-1. In many ways it was the same as last year, when we had a 2-2 with Villarreal and had to go to Spain.

"Of course it's always hard when you go out of any competition. But, to be honest, I don't think we deserved it. Osasuna were the better team."

Like Hemdani, Prso admitted that Rangers now simply have to secure second place in the eight remaining SPl matches they have to get through.

Aberdeen arrive at Ibrox this Saturday with just a four-point gap between themselves and Rangers.

"The team wants to be back in the Champions League, so we know what we need to do. We have eight games left and we need to focus on that now," said Prso.
