A TOUGH training schedule last week ended with the netball challenge game between the Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland Women's netball team, who are trying to raise money for their trip to New Zealand in November for the World Championships.

The game finished 48-42 to the girls, which was probably fair, and the man of the match for the Warriors was lock Andy Newman, who scored 38 points in all.

His athleticism around the net was truly something to behold!

Getting back to the rugby, the RBS 6 Nations clash with Ireland at Murrayfield last Saturday was one that Scotland could have won but, like in any sport when you are winning most of your games - like the Irish are - then you generally manage to clinch the close ones.

The England win over France means that this weekend's games will determine who wins the championship and therefore adds even more to Scotland's last game in Paris.

Unfortunately, I have not managed to get myself back in the team since our match against England, so it has obviously been a frustrating time.

But there are a number of us in the same boat, pushing to be part of the match 22.

It is the toughest part of what we do, but is something that almost every player will go through at some stage.

I don't think it changes much no matter what level you play at - not getting selected for the team you are aiming for is a tough thing to take.

What is important, however, is how you react.

I can tell you, I'm really looking forward to getting back into the Glasgow games.
