THE Japanese influence on iconic designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh's work is to be celebrated at a special Mother's Day event in Glasgow.
Entitled Kimono Mackintosh, the event will feature elements of Japanese and Scottish cultures including sushi making and whisky tasting at the Mackintosh Church in Garscube Road, recently reopened after a £1million refit.
Among the highlights are a kimono fashion show, an interpretation of Mackintosh's work by Japanese and Scottish women, and a traditional tea ceremony.
Stuart Robertson, director of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society, said: "The Japanese influence on Mackintosh's work is evident throughout the church. It is an influence that has even driven Japanese tourists to tears of emotion when they enter the building."
Kumiko Hatori, chairwoman of the Scottish Japanese Residents Association said: "Around 90% of Japanese residents in Scotland are women - usually married to Scots.
"We want to show many aspects of Japanese contemporary and traditional culture - food, drink, fashion, music - from a women's perspective.
"We are inspired by Mackintosh and the women who worked with him - such as his wife Margaret MacDonald."
Kimono Mackintosh is being organised by the association and the Consulate General of Japan and hosted by the Mackintosh Society.
Admission to the event, from noon to 4.30pm, is free.
