Gordon Greer admits he is sure Albion fans are not happy with their team as they near the end of a tough season.

But the Seagulls skipper has backed them to give “fantastic support” in a tension-free Amex send-off on Saturday Albion are effectively safe going into their televised clash with Watford.

That is unlikely to be seen as a reason for celebration unless the Seagulls turn it on against the leaders.

And Greer knows it. He told The Argus: “It’s the last home game and we have had fantastic support all season.

“The players aren’t happy with what we have done this season.

“But I’m sure the supporters aren’t happy with the team this year.

“It’s up to us to make it right and regroup.

“Hopefully we put on a good performance and win the game.”

Albion were booed by some fans after defeat at Wigan last Saturday and their striker Leon Best suffered an even more hostile reaction when he was replaced during the most recent home game.

The Seagulls largely owe their safety to a burst of three impressive wins on the spin at the Amex in late February and early March which took them towards mid-table.

Victory over title-chasing Watford would send home fans away for summer with a spring in their step and lift spirits after a run of one point from five games.

Greer believes it could happen.

He added: “The Championship is so tight from top to bottom so we have got as much chance as we have against anybody.

“We will give it our all and hopefully we get the right result.”

Albion, looking to avoid a fourth successive blank at the Amex, have just six home wins to their name, matching their tally of 2008-09 when they avoided relegation from League One on the final day of the season.
