Albion have been warned about a backlash from Middlesbrough as their last day hosts look to regain momentum for the Championship play-offs.

Boro’s hopes of an automatic return to the Premier League were wrecked by Saturday’s 4-3 defeat at Fulham and Bournemouth’s 3-0 win against Bolton on Monday evening.

Key midfielder Grant Leadbitter now wants to clinch third place against the Seagulls in front of a sell-out crowd at the Riverside to lift the mood ahead of the end-of-season shoot-outs.

Leadbitter said: “It was a crazy game (at Fulham) but we got beat. It was disappointing but we’ll go into the next game wanting to win.

“It’s important to win our next game and when you win your next game, that gives you a bit of momentum going into the next one. If that’s the play-offs then great – I can’t wait.”

Boro will be bidding to join promoted Bournemouth and play-off candidates Brentford as the only clubs to complete a league double over the struggling Seagulls after winning 2-1 at the Amex earlier in the season.

Albion will not be playing either Millwall or Wigan in league action next season.

Both were relegated last night following Rotherham’s 2-1 win at home to Reading.

Second-half goals from Matt Derbyshire and Lee Frecklington at the New York Stadium gave the Millers only their second win in nine games.

They are now four points clear of Millwall and six ahead of Wigan with just one round of games to play.
