Chris Hughton admitted he wanted to reward Albion’s travelling fans with a win.

But he felt they sent the diehards home reasonably pleased with their performance in a 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough.

Seagulls fans were handed vouchers worth £6 to spend on food and drink at the turnstiles but Hughton had hoped to offer them more reward on the pitch.

He said: “We have got a big support who travelled. I know they left at about three in morning and we wanted to put in a performance to win the game.

“We weren’t able to do that but there were aspects where I thought we were good.

“I thought we broke well and probably it was a bit of a reflection of how we have been.

“We had some really possession at times against a team that can cause us problems.

“We limited the chances they had but didn’t have so many ourselves.

“At least we have finished the season with a point away from home which, at any other stage of the season, you look upon as a good result.”
