Casper Ankergren insists he will be ready for action next season – even if first-team chances are few and far between.

The experienced goalkeeper has agreed a one-year deal with the club he joined in 2010.

He is likely to be third-choice keeper but is highly valued for his input around the club.

Ankergren said: “I’m very happy and very pleased to be offered a new deal, especially now I’m 35.

“I still feel fit but I know that contracts don’t hang on trees these days, especially when you’re a bit older, so it’s important that you remain professional and train well.

“You have to make sure you’re fit and do all the right things off the pitch as well. I try to do all of those things and that has paid off for me.”

He added: “My ambitions haven’t changed at all since I started playing football as a kid. I’m always going to work hard, do my best and see where it takes me.”
