Inigo Calderon has called on Albion to enjoy a productive summer if they are to get back into the play-off frame.

The popular right-back has agreed a new one-year deal for the 2015-16 campaign and would love to see the Seagulls in great shape for a play-off push by the time Championship action kicks off on August 8.

Calderon, who joined the club midway through the 2009-10 season, has seen Albion make sluggish starts to each of the last three campaigns.

He said: “I realise that every year it gets harder to stay at the club and prove you are good enough. I know that because I’ve been here for the past five years.

“The aim now as a team is to start better than we did last year. We want to be in the top six in the Championship but so do all the other 23 teams in the league.

“We need to respect how tough this division is and, for me, the most important thing is that we start pre-season well and be ready for the start of the new season.”
