Albion's young England star Christian Walton has vowed to grab the chance of a temporary move away from the Amex.

The teenage goalkeeper has embraced boss Chris Hughton’s plan to send him out on loan next season to gain more first team experience.

The Argus revealed at the start of the month Hughton’s plot to lend 19-year-old Walton to another club and sign a more established competitor to No.1 David Stockdale.

Walton, currently on England under-20s duty in France, said: “Hopefully next season I’ll get some more game time, whether it’s at Brighton or out on loan at a good club.

“There is only a certain amount of sitting on the bench you can do at a young age.

“The only way you are going to learn is by playing games week in and week out, so I think getting a loan move would be really beneficial to me. Hopefully it will help me in the long run.”

Walton will be working under a new goalkeeping coach when he reports back to Albion and a return to France in the Alps for a pre-season training camp in early July.

Antti Niemi has vacated the position and gone back to Finland for family reasons.

Walton said: “He is a great coach. He brought a lot to the group with all his Premier League experience and he’s a bit of a character as well. It was sad to see him leave.

“It will be good to have a bit of a change. I don’t know who is coming in but the manager will make a great appointment. He has obviously got a lot of contacts in the game.

“It will be good to see who it is and when I come back for pre-season I’ll be ready to hit the ground running.”

Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford took over between the posts for England under-20s in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in their second group game at the Toulon Festival.

Walton is likely to return for the next fixture against Mexico on Wednesday (6pm).
