Liam Rosenior is not your average footballer.

With Albion's pre-season preparations under way, the new full-back signing from Hull will be paying particular attention to the coaching methods of Chris Hughton, Colin Calderwood and Nathan Jones.

Rosenior, at the age of 30, is already well on his way to securing elite coaching qualifications.

Developing his coaching and managerial ambitions during the three-year deal he has signed with Albion was part of the attraction of the move.

Rosenior told The Argus: "I've just got to complete a paperwork and then I have completed my A licence and then I can move on to the pro licence as quickly as possible.

"The most important thing is I play well for the team and the team does well in the short-term but in the long-term I think it is a perfect club to be at, to learn from top coaches around you like the manager.

"I know Nathan Jones has got a very good reputation and also Colin Calderwood has been in the game a long time, so they are people that I can learn from and hopefully be a better player and a better coach as well."

Rosenior is following in the footsteps of dad Leroy, who moved into management with Gloucester City at the age of 32 following a 12-year playing career as a striker with Fulham, QPR, Bristol City and West Ham, where Hughton was a team-mate.

Leroy also managed Torquay (twice), Brentford and Sierra Leone. In his first spell at Torquay he was on a shortlist of four for the manager's job at Albion when Mark McGhee was appointed.

Rosenior junior revealed: "I had options on the table but as soon as he heard Brighton were keen on getting a deal done he wanted me to go there, which is massive for me.

"He is delighted. He was very close to becoming the manager of Brighton. He mentioned to me about how when he went to the interview they spoke to him about plans for the club and how exciting it was.

"He mentioned as well that it's a great place for me to be. My family too, a great fan base, a great place to live. What I've got to do now is help the team fulfill its potential."

Rosenior played in the Premier League for three seasons at Fulham, one at Reading and two with relegated Hull after helping them to promotion.

He sees similarities between the Seagulls and the Tigers and wants to help not just the current squad but future generations achieve their dreams. "Hull is a fantastic club," he said. "I have got nothing but good things to say about them. They gave me my chance to play again in the Premier League.

"I think there are similarities. The potential is there for both clubs to be successful in the long-term. Part of the attraction for me was that I wanted to be somewhere for a long time and help out not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

"It was really important to me that the club were interested in my coaching and aspirations to go into management from a young age and it's the perfect academy here.

"The other thing is the philosophy of the club fits in with mine as well, so for me it's a perfect move.

"I am looking forward to playing well on the pitch, hopefully, but also having a helping hand in bringing young players through the academy.

"I know that is strange for footballers to talk about but it's something I'm going to be doing."
