ALBION striker Sam Baldock says he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from knee damage.

Baldock is working with the squad at their pre-season training camp in the French Alps.

The Argus revealed last month that he was set for an early return to training after a ligament injury in March ruled him out of the rest of the season.

Baldock said: “I’ve taken part in 95 per cent of the sessions and the medical staff have taken me out and made me rest when needed but overall I feel good, stronger and sharper than I thought I would be.”

Baldock was used on the left wing before his injury. Manager Chris Hughton has stated his intention to use the former Bristol City marksman more in his preferred central role this season, possibly at times in tandem with new buy Tomer Hemed.

Baldock, speaking to the club’s official website, said: “I don’t know what role the gaffer has planned for me, because we’ve not done any shape or had any games just yet but it’s nice to see that he has faith in me in terms of adjusting to positions.

“Ideally, I like to play down the middle, scoring goals and creating opportunities for other people. Hopefully those opportunities will come this season but I’m not taking anything for granted because there is so much talent in the team.

“From what I’ve seen from Tomer, he looks like a good player. He likes to work within the 18-yard box, he’s got a good presence and he’s got good feet as well. I’ve no doubt he will be able to hold the ball up.”
